I put a EFI truck flywheel behind a 89 5.0 mustang and we have slight vibration in the engine.. already changed the balancer. Did I put the wrong flywheel in... What exact flywheel am I supposed to use.????

When i did the 5.0 swap into my bronco it had a nasty vibe in the flywheel too... we pulled it.. took it down to the machine shop and had them balance it. put it back in, smooth as glass.

they balanced the flywheel to what? What did they change... more or less weight?

There was a big change in the factory imbalance, I think in '84. They went from the 28.8 oz to about 56 oz. imbalance. If you've got the wrong flywheel for that shortblock, it'll shake like the devil. I'm pretty sure that it was all in the crank so the rods should interchange across that break.

I had a problem with mine. the guy at the salvage yard sold me the wrong flywheel. I should have checked a little closer before I installed it. He sold me a flywheel for a 300 6 cylinder. They are the same size but the weight was different on the back. Good luck!

luckily the wrecker near me knew what he was doing and sold me the right one, it was my understanding ALL newer engines were the correct weight balance or whatever so as long as you got a flywheel for an engine 90 and up or so you were fine. All I know is mine bolted up and it works :flipoff2:

As mentioned above there is a 26 bal. and a 50 oz bal not 56...either way if u have the 26 it will shake to hell. u need the 50 oz bal. I ordered mine for an 89 f250 with a 5.0 you want to make sure that it is a 164 tooth flywheel also. There is an 156 tooth 26oz and 50 oz bal. The biggest down fall to all of this is the price, I bought my flywheel new from a mustang shop and it retailed for about 400....(this is a STOCK flywheel) but they screwed it up 3 times and gave me a 156 tooth 50 oz bal, 156 26 oz bal, and finaly miusquoted me on the price of the correct one and so I paid 320 totoal....och!

The imbalance went from 28.2 to 50 oz. in '81 so any efi 5.0 truck would be the right one. But the 5.8 didn't change. Is it possible that the efi truck that your flywheel is from was a 351 and not a 302?

When i put the mustang motor in my bronco i took my stock flywheel to Ashland Grinding and Balancing in Hayward and they bolted it to a late model 5.0 crank to balance it. Came out perfect!

I used a 300-6 flywheel which is neutrally balanced, the right size and tooth count, and could be found at any boneyard for cheap, had it balanced to match the flexplate from the 5.0 that I already had. I got it all for $90 total, and it works like its supposed to.
