: Corbeau Seats

This I guess is mainly for RockRover, but I thought that others would want to read it.

I just called Corbeau and they can make a custom seat, either the GTS to or the TRS with a lower bolster. They quoted about $120 extra on top of the $320 to get it done, and said about a 3-week time frame to get them made. I could save a couple a bucks on shipping, as they are located in Salt Lake City.

I am thinking of going that route, and just having the outer bolster's lowered about an inch.

OTOH.....

That's a lot of dough-ray-me to be shelling out for front seats. I think I'll go to the junk yard again and look at some other options.

Sorry to re-hash this, I asked this whole seat question several weeks ago and still haven't made up my mind yet. It's getting to be crunch time on the crew-cab now. The floors are cut, being Rhino-lined top and bottom and will be installed by Friday. Next step are the seats and transmission cover so it's time to decide.

I went with junk yard seats, and they are fine, but,

They are still out of a car with 60,000 + miles on the clock and feel it. I dont have big mileage to do so that's ok.

Dont mess with your back.

Bet you would spend more than that on a good chair / couch in your house, or on an office chair. Where will you spend more time?

Go for it.

Besides, it will be like a "cookie cutter" dream - bolt in :-)

If you are looking at quality seats, Mastercraft makes several models in the $275 price range...including the ones that SG sells. You can get the bracketry from them for ~$75 or make it. Troy just got a set, maybe he can post some pics...or I will when I'm out in CO next month wheelin' with him. The harnesses are ~$95 IIRC, so you could get the whole setup for roughly the same price as just the Corbeau Seats.

in my rig i am using some heated leather seats out of an older saab. they fit in the cab really well and are damn comfortable. plus theyre heated :p

i wish i knew what model they were out of though, if you want i can snap a pic of one of them.

btw, this may not be your experience but i have always been leary of ordering seats from places like beard and corbeau, mostly because i have a finicky back (inherited from my mother :D) and i like to try the seat a little before i buy them.

Here are some great seat sources imho:

Saab 99/900 82Turbo- 90 any
Porsche 924/924Turbo any year. Most supportive non adjustable seat in my opinion.
80's Volkswagen GTI. Re-covered Recaro
80's Mustang GT or turbo - had recaros as option, cloth covered
80's Nissan/Datsun Z-car, adjustable lumbar no heat, soft padding though.

i understand the 'test before buy' theory, and I have tested my back in my corbeaus in the Serious One for quite a while. Before I bought those our local race shop had some we could sit in, and I actually fell asleep in one (note: that's a testimonial).

So, I think I will follow Merv's theory, that in essense I'm buying an office chair. The crew-cab will end up being my office in a very real sense of the word. Good view on that Merv.

Here goes!

ive looked at them in the yard before. comfy as hell, but so damn big and complicated that its not worth it to me. plus, i would end up paying about $800 per seat including all the motors, switches, relays, brackets, etc. at least $800!!!

but they ARE comfy, i remember in my dads 97 4.0SE 6hr road trips were a dream cause it was like sittin in the recliner at home :D

As far as comfort, in HS, a friend had an '82 olds cutlass with a velour bench, front and back. That thing was so comfy it was dangerous, it would put you to sleep. Another seat I enjoyed was Peterbuilt air ride seats installed in a 1990 E350 4x4, not a bad feel, and of course the BMW route I have mentioned before. One other option if considering a bench, go Cadillac.

I just replaced the stock seats out of our D90 with Corbeau GTS IIs. Had a whole issue with the "drivers side" mount being way too high but was able to correct it. I did a quick write up on it for The D-90 Source if you want to take a peak at it.

Hey Chris,

Yeah a guy I know put GTSII seats into his D90, but I don't know which mounting kit he made.

On the seats we put into the Serious One, we actually used MOMO mounting kits because they have a latch on each slider, not just one.

IMO, having just one latch really ought to be enough.

The slider brackets I got for the GTSII seats are the universal brackets. We're not using any of the original seat boxes for the interior of the crew-cab, so now is the time to do whatever we want to improve the interior space of a Defender. Wait till you see it, it's really pretty unbelievable how much space you can get back when you scrap the stock floorboard system.

I'm picking my floorboards today from the Rhinolining place. I had them shot top and bottom for sounddeadening and floormats on top. They'll be bolted in this weekend.

Here's a shot of the interior with the rear floorboard installed.

Michael, is it me, or is that cab longer than usual? 'Cause it looks REALLY long in that photo. Talk about stretching out! Looks great. Keep the photos coming.

Greg,

Very astute of you to notice!

Imagine, if you will, a pair of front doors, squared off on the top, mounted in the rear. Imagine adding 4.5 inches to the cab section, all of it in the rear. Imagine having a perfectly flat floor from the rear bulkhead to the front. Imagine being able to stretch out in the back seat NOT feeling cramped like in a 109 or 110 rear seat. Now you're starting to get the idea behind what the crew cab is going to be.

I have a mock-up that I'll attatch. We also stretched the frame to accomodate a full 6-foot bed that will not extend beyond the rear cross member. We did both stretches at the same time with one graft that was done as the factory did it. Not content to leave the frame alone, it was also strapped with 1/4 inch steel from the front spring perches to the rear spring perches, both top and bottom. You should be able to see it in the photo above.

I picked up the floorboards from the Rhinoliners today, but DOH! didn't have my camera, so no piccies today. Tomorrow for sure.

Here's the mockup.

Later I'll explain what the big white square is on the back. It's being built right now and will be mounted on the truck next week. Woohoo!
