A mini-spool replaces the spider gears and side gears, like a lockright. A spool replaces the carrier. The mini-spool would be the weakest and the cheapest of the two.

a mini spool just replaces the spider gears the spool is a complete carrier

the mini is cheaper and weaker do to its the origanl carrier strength

a mini spool is a drop in replacement for the differential gears. it does not require setting up the ring and pinion. a full spool replaces the carrier completely amd does require transfering the ring gear to the spool and setting up the ring and pinion. a full spool is virtually bullet proof-

for Toyota third's, spools go for around 2 bills- don't have a clue on other applications-

I just pulled my 12-bolt minispool out. It's got probably about 4 or 5 trips on it, the vehicle was trailer only(not that it could wear out or anything). Dutchman has them for $95, and Moser has them for $100. Want mine? $75??? A 12-bolt full spool is more like $190, plus the cost of ring and pinion set up.

I wasn't too worried about breaking carriers, which is why I went with the minispool instead of the full spool. That, and you can install the minispool yourself in maybe an hour or so.

If the vehicle is street driven, you'll be burning tires a lot quicker than with a locker.

Anyway, mine is available if you want it.
