I have an old IHC x army 3/4 ton truck it has a HUGE Rockwell divorced T case. Anyone know anything about these? Strength low range anything, or am I forced to go to the rabid dogs in the general section?

Butch:

I had a Rockwell 221 - came out of a late 60's Chevy - heavy cast iron son of a gun - mine had a 465 in front of it and was not the divorced type, although I have been told there were divorced 221's. The cool thing about it was the rear centered output was really low - same height as the front output - which was great for a lifted rig. The bad part about it is that Rockwell cases are obsolete - no one is making spare parts (gears, and some of the bushings) - as I understand it most of the bearings are still available. The low range is 1:1.96 IIRC. There is a brass bushing that wears out and is impossible to find - or so said the fella that bought mine. Similar strength to an NP205 (which is it's sucessor).

Andy pretty much summed up my understanding. I think the old Rockwells must outweigh the NP205 by a factor of two and not be any lower geared, so I don't see any real advantage.

Oh, BTW, welcome aboard Butch :D :D

Pulled Jeff Zepps heavy HZJ 75 out of Fins & Things in Moab when he shelled both pumpkins......7000 lb trailer. heck of a load. We had to double strap him once to another rig in front of me.

I did not see the other question, about what it is going in, no its for a trail rig Josh and I are planning, Old Yeller has a kick ass paint job now, and I'm going to pretty much make it into a street/mild trail rig. The new one will have coils, 4 link, TBI 350 D60 and 14 bolt. I have not decided on tranny/t case yet, leaning towrds the 465/203/205. I have everything to put it together except the doubler adapter and the T400 shaft in the 205.
I have located another 203 off of a 465 if anyone needs it....
