The poser in the driver's seat is me, the owner. I've been watching the postings on the Pirate's page for months now, and finally decided to register because I have parts that I am listing for sale in the Classifieds.

This epic project started two years ago. After competing in the '99 Warn event, I was bit by the "bug" and decided to rebuild my Bronco. Well, the only parts remaining from the old Bronco are the hood pins and the registration.

The "2002 Model" is narrower, thinner and longer than stock and oh yeah, it uses portal 9" axles. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Eric at Fat City has been working on the project since last November, and we hope to have it up and 'wheeling for the Warn event coming up this November.

It looks great, wasn't it supposed to go to powdercoat this morning? That is my FJ 40 that is either sitting in front of or behind you in the picture. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> Can't wait to see that thing running.

You are correct sir. That was my scout in the beginning stages. Sounds to me like Eric is gonna be real busy the next month or so.

Well, I've changed my mind so many times now it's hard to remember but the frame is blue (loud) and the body is charcolsilverygrayish

The specs on the rear ram are a two inch bore,eight inch stroke with a 1.375 inch rod. With pump specs of 3.5 gpm,1300 psi the ram will move 7 inchs per second and make up to 2,200 lbs of push. I'm using to engine driven pumps tweaked by Howe Performance The rear steer is activated by a joy stick (back and forth) between the seats. It's independent of the front.

7 inches a second??? WOW!!! That's fast. Was that speed intentional or are you putting some kind of limiter on it?

The pump specs of 3.5 GPM are the max (engine wound up) at idle it's much less .Also the joy stick is varible. But yes a ristricter could be added.

from previous post it said that bronco is getting a very built 351, just curious why you would do this in a purpose built rock crawler. Seems like it would eat alot of gas and produce alot of heat and not have the drivability of a milder motor. Just curious why you want big HP in a crawler

You're absolutly right. H.P. is not important for crawling.But watching people like Sam Patton drive is entertaining to me. I wanted an entertainment pedal.
The motor is really not all that radical.It's a stroked 351W displacing 426 inches, A big block in a small block package. H.P. is around 420 whereas torque is in the low 500s.These numbers should tell you that the engine is not tweaked hard. Keeping it cool Is defintely the priority, so I kept the C.R. low. It's port fuel injected so it will be more miserly and mild mannered. The radiator is as big as would fit along with the fan. I use 1310s as a fuse. We'll see how it works in a few weeks.

What is the wheelbase on that thing? 110ish?

Did you go through HOWE for all your steering parts? Does the rear end self ceter or lock?

W. B. is 106. I use Howe pumps and filter/resevoirs. The rams are from Parker and Avalanche. Rear does not self center or lock.
