: 9.5" 14b Lock-Right?

I have a 9.5" sf 14 bolt rear with a sloppy eaton clutch type posi, in the rear of my truck.

I was thinking of putting a lock right in which would cost me about $450-$500 with a new open carrier.

My other option is a Detroit locker, which i know obviously is a better choice but at close to $700 the lock-right is looking a bit better.

My question is if anyone can forsee and problems with running a lock-right instead of a detroit?
Will a lock-right function at least close to as well as a detroit?
And will a lock-right hold up?

Thanks

Get a 14 Bolt FF, and get a detroit for that (Much cheaper as you dont have to buy a full carrier style as with the 9.5). And 14B FF's are all over craigslist for dirt cheap too! ($100-$200 is very common). Plus, you dont have to do any gear shimming if you can get one with the correct gear ratio to match your front diff, as the detroit is an in-carrier locker for the 14B FF. You would probably be in that project the same amount, if not less, and end up with a much stronger axle.

i already have a set of 1 tons but my truck is 6 lug and it is going to stay that way for a little while longer, i just want to lock up my sf for now until i can gather all the parts to link my truck. im just gonna go with the lock-right and see how it goes.

since this is a temp fix till you go 1 ton just weld the rear up and save the $500 you'd spend on a lockright for your 1 ton swap project.

a buddy of mine had one in his 12 bolt and swore by it, never broke and was consistent in locking and unlocking. drove well on the street to, and whenever i rode with him never noticed the funny handling characteristics that people always blame them for. it was in his scout and his wheelbase was pretty short at 100"

sounds like your dead set on doing it, so i say go for it

Since this is only temporary, buy a used, loaded, open carrier and weld it up. You will have less than $100 in everything...

I would weld up the gove lock you have...

Oh and verify that the lock right will fit in a gov-lock case. Some require an open diff.....

it isnt a gov lock in the axle it is a eaton posi, the clutch type one. so i know a need a open carrier. although i do have the gov lock that came in the axle when i bought it.

as for welding it i still drive the truck on the street and will be for a while until i can set up my axles and suspension swap.
