: Nissan axle?

Just curious if anyone has swapped a early Nissan REAR axle into their zuki? Seems like they would be as good of a swap as a Toy axle! Also seems like there could be a bunch found in salvage yards. Maybe I am wrong?

Thanks,
Wayne

Yep, you're wrong. Datsuns and Nissans have IFS.

damn newbies :flipoff2: nissan rear axles are weaker than the toys... there are no nissan front straight axles that i'm aware of. not to mention toy axles are cheap and plentiful.

i dunno... the nissan rears are pretty hefty. and using some parts from AUS you could build wuite a nice full floater. itll cost ya, but it would be different.

I could be wrong. it doesnt happen often but it is possible. but I dont think they make much of a selaction for gears and lockers for a nissan. I always wanted to sick a nissan case in my sami between my tranny and t-case though.

If you use old stuff it will be beefy. G60 (k60 in the states? ) axles are real big & strong. Drums front & rear is the only drama. They have been swapped to discs, though, and both detroits and ARBs are made for 'em...
If you can get Australian stuff all is good. Plenty of front & rear GQ diffs around cheap. Nice & wide with discs & big CV's, plenty of locker & gear options...

Get an Xterra axle!:D

Seriously, some rear Izuzu Trooper axles are supposed to be pretty beefy, based on the D44 if I have it correctly (and maybe I don't, but it is intriuging. Did I mention the rear disc brakes?).

Some Isuzus came with rear-disc-braked Dana 44s which are almost a bolt-in for a Toyota. 4WOR had an article on it and how it was the greatest upgrade for the back of a Toyota a couple years back...

Of course, they didn't mention that a D44 has the exact same axleshafts (1.3" 30-spline) as a Toy axle, so it's not a strength upgrade of any significance. You get an extra 1/2" of ring gear, and rear discs. That's about it.

Of course, if you don't already HAVE Toy axles, it might be worth looking into...

I have looked at the troopers rear axles with the disk brakes for a possible swap before I did the toy swap. Two things that I saw as a draw back was that I think the lowest gear I found was a 4.56 and the spline count was really low, I don't remember the exact number but it wasn't anything spectacular.

Toy rear axles are a fawking dime a dozen, hell, I got mine for FREE! :D Plus, it is really easy to find used gears and lockers on the cheep too. I'd stick with toys myself...Nissan parts seem to be really expensive, like BMW parts...

Terra has 5.38's in the pipline for the rear Isuzu Corp 12 bolt that comes in Troopers. Most Amigo's and Rodeo's have a D44 in the back and take std D44 gears.
