I have a 2.4 tacoma motor with an 2wd automatic transmision that I plan on installing into a Suzuki Samurai, well the Samurai has a divorced transfer case, so I could just use it... But is there any EASY way to convert the 2wd transmision into a 4wd, so I can remove the weaker Suzuki transfer case?
I was guessing that you could just unbolt the "nose cone" part of the transmision and bolt a Tacoma T-case to it... is that even remotly correct.
If that can be done, whats the model (or whats it called) of the tcase that I would need?

I highly doubt it. I know you CANT just bolt on a tacoma t-case to a tacoma Prerunner tranny, they are even the same trannys. I guess some shaft inside it is different, I dunno. Someone compared them when they did a 4wd swap a while back. The pattern matched, but not the shaft.
Dont the pickup 5speed tranny's have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing? Just pick one of those up somewhere.

Jim at inchworm has an adapter for it. Will run about 700 bucks or so. Here is a thread about it,

Not for the 2.4 automatic tho. Sorry to say I think he's SOL, short of swapping in one of the a340e/f tranny's with the appropriate t-case adapter.

Thanks for the Reply's .... I think for nowI'll just run the Samurai T-case then..but who knows if that might change by December...trying to keep this entire project under $1000
Install Toyota Taco 2.4 w/auto tranny $400
Install Toyota 83 truck axels $300
Toyota Wheels (already got the tires) $100
possably winch or EXO cage as well $400 (already have the DOM for the cage)
Fresh paint Job $100 (tractor paint)
Sell old Sami stuff
motor $200
Tranny $150
EFI setup $400
Axels $400-600 (geared and spools)
So if my firgures are right, I should still have around $800 leftover :flipoff2: on my buget, so maybe I will find a used 4wd tranny w/transfer....and install it.
Time to head to the local Pick-and-pull...maybe they will have one :D

Actually the 2.4 auto was the first tranny we used the "PreRunner Adapter" on. It will work fine with any Toyota 2wd auto as well as some Volvo station wagons!.
