I'm trying to find someone who knows what the hell they are doing with tracking down issues dealing with smog on my 1992 Wrangler. Anyone had good luck with a smog mechanic in this area?

Is Albert a general smog tech, or does he just do jeeps? I've got a yota motor'd sami and I need someone to give it a visual and pretest to make sure everything is properly hooked up before setting an appt with the ref. Every smog shop we've talked to wont even touch it before it goes to the ref. They act like we're asking them to fake a smog for it or something. All we want is someone to tell us if there's something that needs to be fixed.

EDIT: DOH! forgot Becca was still logged on.

I thought the whole point of taking it to a ref. was to get it inspected to see if it would pass and to get a motor change decal? The mechanic's shop I took my jeep to said they would run it to test it before they took it to the test only center. Once the problem was fixed though, it passed with flying colors.

The ref IS the tester. Problem is you have to make an appointment with the ref quite a bit ahead of time and technically they dont have to tell you squat. They are not allowed to fix anything, nor are they allowed to diagnose any problems. They will tell you if something is hooked up wrong, but they wont tell you how it's supposed to be hooked up.

I recommend taking whatever you got to Wilson Automotive in Brea. They do smog as well and were quite knowledgeable on my pile. I had to have it taken to a test only center and they have a guy that they deal with regularly and he passed it once they got it functioning properly. I wish I would have taken it to them in the first place.
