seems that the BMW factory ships new cars to the dealers with a hella batter cut of switch as a theft deterent. i know the parts guy and he gave me on of these. maybe stop your local bmw dealer and if you ask nice just maybe they will give you one.

Do they take them out before they sell the cars? I'm guessing that it's a shipping thing. I'm gonna have to have my girl go to the BMW place and she if she can sweet talk them out of a couple. I look nothing like a BMW customer and would probably be quickly escorted out if I tried to talk to them.

They are not really used as a theft deterent so much but are used to keep the batteries from discharging during shipment and storage.
(yes, I work for a BMW dealer!)

Hook a brotha up!

hhhmmm...my wife just bought a 325i....have to have her schmooze with the garage guys.....

If you want a 1000 amp rated disco switch, I bought 2 from JC Whitney for like $30 each. Hard to pass for the price.

Problem with BMW and that style switch is that they are not using them any more! A newer style disco switch with just a toggle and an electronic switch.

I'll check to see if I can round any up! Will post if I score any and will hand them out first come first serve. :flipoff2:

EDIT:
OK I scored about a dozen of the electronic cutoff switches.
All you will need to do is mount a mini toggle switch to operate them.
WHO WANTS ONE?

I'll stand in line too, seems like you are 3-4 over what was available but if people back out or someone gets more I'm up for one. Always makes me uncomfortable that my 4runner will start with a screwdriver...or even a penny :D

I went there on my lunch, the Parts guy just gave me a blank stare, and said what model?
I said no model, its just a diso switch.
It was going no where, so i said 3 seriers, he said we don't list that part for a 3 seriers. i got upset and left

That is a standard tractor cut off switch that you can get at any farm supply store or auto parts joint for about $5 or so...I have had one in my truck for years....Wont start without the key... now if BMW wants to give some away then go for it...very simple to install...:D

I don't mean to rain on the parade here, but, after a bit more checking, turns out these switches are supposed to be sent back to BMW for re-use! I found a part # on the switches but it turns up invalid. SO, with all that said,

I will NOT be able to deliver any of the switches to those of you who have chimed in for the battery disconect switch. Sorry to get you all worked up for nothing!

A little :emb2: and hanging my head in shame!
