do they know what kind of spring rate i need for the weight of my vehicle? i want to run a little heavier rate than my coils, but dont want to loose flex...who has the best answer to these questions?

I'll tell you what I've got...
I'm useing 450 over 450 in the front and 350 over 350 for the rear springs, it's just about perfect for me. It won't ramp real well but it works good in real life. I can bonzi anything and the front bump stops just kiss the axle, and it handles very well at higher speeds, the rears will bottom a little with 2 people and some gear in the bed if it hit the whoop de doos too fast tho. I'd prefer a little more rear spring at times. When I'm loaded for the week at tellico it probably weighs 2100 ft and 2200 rear, plus our fat asses. : )

yeahh that sounds like about what im wantin, allthough my ride might be a tad bit heavier.... allready plannin the trip to tellico, stayin at the cove with rich (green cj) the fawkin roofer...lol i wont be doin this untill end of next season, just trying to get it all planned out... ill be payin close attention to your ride down there... cant wait till april.....

Cool sounds great, the green cove is sweet. We set up a full shop in the parking lot, and we line the window sills with broken parts all week long. : )
Bring a bottle of canadian whiskey for "Ham" the guy who cleans the rooms (well he's supposed to clean), he is THE contact around there....if he likes ya, you can get away with anything, and he'll probably lay some fresh trout on ya.

yeahh, ive always stayed on the "other" side, but seems to be a better set up on the cove side.... i cant fawkin wait... love it down there.....

I weighed my TJ at the local scales and it read 4100 lbs and that was with 3/4 tank of gas.

You should bring yours up and we can weigh it too. Its free. and only takes a minute.
That way you can see how much more yours weighs than mine. I am guessing yours would be closer to 4600 lbs. without you.

Combined coil rates are tricky, The best way to set it up is load your rig for the trail and weigh it 3 times front tires , rear tires, & total weight figure out what angle the shocks will be mounted at then get ahold of somebody that has a combined coil chart and discuss your ride preferences/needs and they should be able to hook you up.

Call Sway away and ask for Drew Burroughs or Dylan Evans. Those guys know there stuff.

Hey man,

Coilovers are nice. The spring rates posted on this board seem a tad high to me, although mine probabably seem a bit low. Anyway, a good rule of thumb to go by is that you want the free length of your springs to add up to 2x the shock travel. So, if you're using 14" travel shocks, you want the free length of the coils to be ~28".

What this does is virtually eliminate the need for any coil retainer, there is still pressure on the coils at full droop which means they aren't going anywhere. Me and my two friends you saw at big dogs(lengthened green CJ-5 and the unpainted YJ), we all use the same rates. In the front I know they are 250 over 300, and I think both are 14" springs. I'm really starting to wonder. I've just finished building my fullsize bronco w/ coilovers in the front. I wasn't sure what rate to go with so I took the advice of the guy at Avalanche. I've got 200 over 300. The front of my rig weighs 1950#. I wonder if it'll be too soft and if he'll exchange them. <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">
