We can't thank Bret Preble (Tinman) and Dave Mc Creary (sp?) WEBILT 4WD Club enough for totally going out of their way to get us the assistance we needed.
Special thanks go out to the guys who came out to get our broken and thirsty rigs off the trail:
Dave Mcreay
Jim Socha
Rick White
Luigi Ciciarelli
Rick Salorio
Mike Ryan
Kevin Ryan
I am so glad I got in touch with Bret (and Hooch) before we left. I got great information from both of them, and when we really needed help, we got the support we needed.
We were fairly well prepared, but we could have planned a little better. The snowstorm kicked our butts, and a disabled rig, a disabled winch, got us into some real trouble. Just a nasty combination.
I knew we were in trouble when I had made the second water crossing after it had snowed about 6 inches. Not knowing the trail I got high centered coming out of the crossing. Hard to see rocks under a blanket of snow. Anyway, that's when my winch decided to be bound up, And I couldn't get it unstuck on my own. So we decided, since it was snowing even harder, to stay right where we were. I was across the river, and my two friends were on the other shore. As soon as I woke up in the morning, I called Bret, and said we might need some help. We managed to get me off the shore and the other two rigs came across.
The phone tree started and we went from the second river to the bottom of Winch Hill #2, with both Dave and Bret checking in with me regularly. When the H3 broke a front diff, we knew then there was no way we were going to get out on our own with a disabled rig and one winch.
I called Dave and he said they would be there in the morning. The trail was tough enough, 8 inches of snow made it miserable.
About 11AM Saturday morning, Dave called and said they were close by, and would see us soon. I think stoneyxj came by first, and then the WEBILT crew arrived.
I've never been so happy in my life.
Part of the group headed back to get the disabled H3, and myself, the H2 and Jim headed up winch hill 2 bypass.
That was fairly easy, and remarkably the group that had split off to get the other H3, were making tracks and catching up to us quickly.
We all joined up at the top of winch hill two, and had lunch at the 3rd water crossing.
These guys worked together like a well oiled machine, spotting, strapping, winching like experienced professionals!
We were off the trail just before dark, laughing and hugging and airing up.
Dave let Sewie use his tow rig to get the disabled H3 to my place in Rocklin. We drove it back up this morning to Cisco Grove, then took both the H3's to the Dealership in Sac. for repairs. (Thank god they are still both under warranty:flipoff2:)
I'll never forget the WEBILT 4WD Clubs generosity, and thank you Bret for getting me in touch with Dave.
Anyone want to see pics of Hummers on Fordyce? :D:D:D:D:D
