I'm looking for a full size project truck. I live in the midwest so it would be used mostly in mud, water, and maybe a bit of sand down at the river. I'm wanting a half ton and solid front axle.
Anyone have some suggestions on what platform to use to start my project?
I'm kind of liking the '93 F150 Reg Cab/Long Bed but I'm not sure if they are solid front axle. Anyone have a clue as to what years they started the IFS bullshit on the big 3?

Hell, if you're looking for a project start with waht you like and make it what you want.
It's a very common swap to put the solid D44 from a 79 and earlier bronco/F-150 into the 1980-1996 F-150's. you maintain your coil springs and it's more or less of a bolt in swap, depending on how for you want to go with it. no matter what there is some fab work, but it really isn't too bad.
try looking over at fullsizebronco.com and look in the SAS forum. the bronco and f-150 are the same from the back of the front doors forward, so everything there applies.
And of the IFSes, Ford's TTB is the closest to a solid axle. However, it definitely has it's own peculiarities. the first thing I always do when picking up a new TTB or TIB ford truck is to replace the front coil springs and the I-beam pivot bushings. it cures most of the ills that these trucks have
