Looking for a write up on a rear Dana 60 35 Spline Detroit Locker install for a ~79 Ford. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Is the install any different from a 30 spline install? Do the spindles have to be machined to fit the larger 35 spline shafts (1.3 vs 1.5" diameter?)

It is a dana axle it is the same and they suck either way ... I wish all were as easy as 14 bolts.

What about the spindles, do they need to be machined to fit the 35 spline shafts (1.3 vs 1.5" diameter shaft)

If it is rear yes they need to be machined.

Looks like I need .17" removed from the spindle (~8" long) Anyone had luck using a hone or adjustable blade reamer to do this vs pulling the housing and taking it to a machine shop?

I chose to convert to semi float ends. I didn't like the amount of material I was going to have to remove to fit the 35 splines as full float. I got the big bearing semi float ends from Dutchman. I was able to strip a lot of weight off of the axle and easily retain my 6 lug pattern.

You CAN hand ream the spindles with a "REPLACEABLE-BLADE EXPANSION HAND REAMER, 1-7/16" - 1-5/8" EXPANSION RANGE, 12" L OVERALL" from http://www.mcmaster.com/ for about $100. Took some time, but did not have to take the housing to a machine shop.

Some spindles can fit the 35 spline junk without any machining. Take a pair of verniers to yours and check the ID.

Weld on 14 bolt spindles or better yet, put a 14 bolt under the bitch:flipoff2:
