i recently failed insp for loose balljoints.the driver side was really bad and we replaced both.i bought the driver side too but wont have time to do it before ive gotta go back through.the joints arent that old maybe 4 yrs since we did them last and the dr side wasnt nearly as bad as the pass.someone told me i could loosten up the top ball joint nut and unseat the baljoint from the taper.them screw the threaded sleeve down a bit and retighten the top nut.i did this and it seemed to work but will it still be sloppy after just a day or so of driving?

yea... when ball joints wear out that means they need to be replaced. no fixing them. this is especially true when driving on the street.

You are in the land of rust, but I've changed many a ball joint without a press. You just need a large drift, something to brace the knuckle on and a BFH. I've found a piece of 1.25" galv. pipe fits nicely over the balljoint and catches the rim so it can be driven out of the kuckle.
