: Amount of throw needed in clutch slave for SM465?
FattyCBR 10-24-2001, 12:03 PM I'm putting an SM465 into my Toy. I'd like to go hydraulic clutch. Can anyone tell me any OEM aplications that used an SM465 with a hydr. clutch or how much throw I need so I can start measuring slave cylinders off another truck?
Thanks
Scout Dude 10-24-2001, 12:09 PM Someone recently told me that it was between 1 to 1 1/8 of an inch. I never measured mine but it seems about right.

Is your bracket homemade, and if so do you have any pics (io not what's it off of)? <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
dirtrod 10-24-2001, 12:46 PM the 1-1 1/8" is right...find out the bore size and the throw into your master cyl. before you go shopping, once you know the fluid displacement your master puts out, you can do a little math to figure out the bore of the slave cyl you need to get 1-1 1/8" throw you want.
Scout Dude 10-24-2001, 12:50 PM I have a Chevy bellhousing that it mounts directly to(it's a Chevy slave)
And, I suddenly remembered who told me it was 1 to 1 1/8. It was Dirtrod..I swear man, you know everything.
Tankota 10-24-2001, 01:01 PM Is this going into a cruiser or a pickup?
I put a 465 in my cruiser a several years ago and had to use an old, straight, cast clutch fork that had two holes to choose from on the slave cylinder end of it.
I used the inner hole (closer to the bellhousing) and it has worked fine with my cruiser clutch MC and slave.
I originally tried to use the stock stamped steel fork (came with the sm465) and I didn't have enough throw to disengage the clutch completely.

LOL ...If I know something, you can bet I learned it the hardest way possible. : )
Tankota 10-24-2001, 01:04 PM Oh yah, a friend of mine has an '85 chev 4x4 that has a factory hydraulic clutch on his sm465. The MC and slave cylinders are really expensive though (more than my cruiser ones!...it is pretty rare that I find a chevy part that costs more than a cruiser part)
TPIJeep 10-24-2001, 01:05 PM This might help ya a little.. I used the stock hyd slave and master off of a 81 CJ-5 with a GM 151 and SR-4 tranny on my SM465. I made a little bracket to hold the slave and all was good. www.4wd.com (http://www.4wd.com) has the parts you need if you can't find anything used that will work..
HTH..
FattyCBR 10-24-2001, 07:18 PM Thanks for the info, looks like it's time to get creative.
Keith 10-24-2001, 09:16 PM Hmmmm. I used the flat cast fork with an 80 CJ7 master and slave. Homemade bracket, works bitchin. Try not to make it so complicated.
Grim Reaper 10-25-2001, 12:47 PM Here is a way one of my IRC buds worked it out on a 420. should work on a 465 also.

The part number on that is Wilwood 340-1470

DavidO 07-25-2002, 09:08 PM Does anyone know the bore on a stock Cruiser master? Also, anyone know who has the best prices on Wilwood parts? Jegs?
thanks, ~dso
Nobody 07-25-2002, 09:25 PM I used a 1975 Toyota landcruiser slave on my NP435, and it worked out really well. It's small, cheap, and easy to mount. The wilwood stuff in nice, but expensive. Any parts store around should have the LC slave.
I know it's not cheby, but this might help.
