I've got an el-cheapo 1990 4x4 'Burban ($100) with a 350 TBI... ...190 hp & 300 ft-lbs of torque stock. What do you suggest for relatively cheap and easy mods for more hp & torque?

BTW, I plan on shortening the frame, whackin' sheet metal and replacing the axles with a locked D60 & welded 14 (both disked) running 42" Swampers on Hummer wheels...

Can you point me in the right direction?

I should qualify that I'm looking any possible TBI mods, not headers, dual-high flow exhaust, etc...

Can you bolt on 454 TB with a proper fuel pump to increase performance or are there aftermarket TB's that are "the set-up"?

I bought a Holley TB from summit racing, it was the best investment i have on my truck.

No, simply put....you can't bolt on a 454TBI in place of a 350TBI. Besides a 350 tbi will not limit your motor with the mods you're looking at. The best cheap mod would be a mild cam swap and a good state of tune, the OEM cam is pretty anemic. A roller cam would be ideal due to the higher/faster valve lifts that can be obtained with lower durations. The TBI heads are actually very good at what they were designed for....TQ below 4000rpm.....but then again a head swap does not fall under cheap.
Other than that I would not go crazy because you'll have to follow through on what you start.....heads=much better cam=ported TBI....and so on. If you're looking for a hassle free mod I would suggest a 383 combo with the 350's TBI system. You'd most likely JUST have to bump the fuel press....and maybe depending on cam use one of the higher rated 350 fuel injectors....like the 9C1 (cop car) injectors or 7.4L injectors (in the 5.7L TB) if even more wild. The TBI engines were designed very well....for TQ. For HP use they tend to lack flow....velocity they have.

put a 400 hp shot of nitrous on it... that way you get a whole 300 hp.

Edit: ok ok...

you can get a different intake manifold like a performer, and put a TBI plate on it, bolt a TBI on ,and go EFI with a carb style intake that will make more power. say you find a Weiand intake cheap as hell, you buy it, bolt it on, and you will make more power than the stock stuff. all you need to adapt the TBI is a plate. they sell em.

If you go 383 route, get a weiand Stealth intake, and the plate.Year one (http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/headline.asp?hid=F13AU63495)sells em..

Yes you can swap the tbi units, but you will have to change the injectors from the 350 unit into the 454 unit or you will run extremely rich.
the 454 tbi unit has about 750cfm and it will help a little in the hp department letting the motor breathe a little more. I am running one of these on my motor and it works great.

You also have to bore the intake for the larger 7.4L blades AND try and adapt the sensors....which by the way do NOT plug and play....bolt on....NO!!

OOOOPS!!!

I did forget about that... It's been a while since I did mine.. Sorry..
You can get an adapter to plug the IAC motor in, and the TPS is the same on both. or solder a new plug on, but if I remember right you have to swap the C and D wires on the plug so it will work.
What I did on mine for the intake was used a deburring tool to open the bores a bit to clear the throttle blades.Only took a half an hour and did not even have to take it off the engine. Just packed it with a rag and the suck it out with a shop vac.
