Did this guy (one of my neighbours) just let a good idea get out of hand, or is it really just fugly? For instance, he has what could be rock lights except they go straight out sideways, and cannot be pointed at the wheels, there is an airtank, but no visible quick connects, and no air lockers. And are those stock axles turning those 44"s?
Its looks like it could be saved, but you don't often have to see a Jeep get LOWERED to be trailable....

I'd say he just missed a few important points in Build Up 101. Like lose the sway bar. :D

are you SURE!? That front axle looks like a D30. Look at the external hubs. but yeah.. the rear is a D60.

Umm..... This is what happens when a newbie uses the search feature?

CRO

The front axle looks like a HD Dana44 from an early 70's Chev K20
It could also be a Jeep J-20 front... AFAIK these were the only passenger side eight lug D44's to use the external hub.
The rear is definitely a D60.
The Mudflaps are definitely a reactionary move... he must get pulled over constantly in that thing....

His sway bar is so cool he decided to paint it blue!!!!!

Mmmmm bump stop extensions too

Love the Pro Comp license plate too...... hell I'm embarrassed of my pro comp lift

And the front springs are bent.
No, those are not stock axles. The rear is a 60, the front I believe is a 44.
8 lug rims should give it away.

Ok first off I can see you taking the pic in the reflection caused by this well waxed and polished Jeep. Next those Nerf bars cause clearance issues worsened by the steps. The mudflaps are pointless and if he backs up over something it will suck those things under the tire and right off the back. I hard a hard time seeing the rest of the pics after the wheels blinded me. Not a Jeep for most of us but if the guy rides around town in love with the thing then let him be. Its like telling a man in love that his wife is fugly its just ain't right. Personally I think its a waste I got a neighbor who lowered his Jeep and put some trick rims on it but to each his own until they get in the way on the trail:rasta:

Who cares about the mudflaps?! He needs them for inspection or resolution of a fix-it ticket, so what?

D44 front, D60 rear, can't you see the big hub on the end? I agree that some things are a little wacky, but what's his status? Has he had it long, is he in the middle of upgrading?

Haven't you anything better to do than do a spy and dis photo feature?
If I was yer neighbor and the owner of that CJ, I'd walk down the side walk AND KICK YER :rasta: BUTT for posting this.

There's no way that those are 44" tires.

Look at a 44" tire on a 15 or 16.5" rim, and look at the amount of TIRE sidewall there is.

Them's not 44's.

Hell, I don't think it's bad. Lose the body lift, sway bar, nerf bars, make the mudflaps quick disconnect, do some cuttin, and it's a hell of a start!

That's a really clean CJ and the owner has obviously spent a fortune and a ton of time on it getting it just the way he wants it.
I can appreciate that, and you might better understand if you ever saw my rig.

Hey, Big Dude ...

You'd probably "understand better" if you have ever done a frame and up restore on on a CJ. It's a lot of work!
At least I can appreciate that! :)

You can make fun of me if you want cuz I posted my $hit, but that guy didn't ask for anything ...:p

Now I understand what you're saying. I meant that I saw your Jeep and your trail pics, so comparing your ride to the *pretty cruiser* Jeep posted above did not seem like apples to apples, therefore I didn't understand how you could relate.

My understanding is that he doesn't even "drive it around town". He has a BIGGER Truck which he cruises around in. The poor CJ just sits, and collects dust (and there is a good layer of dust on top of the wax, or all the pix would have been over-exposed!)

You guys seem to be right about the axles (axels??:flipoff2:). If he has axles like that under there, maybe he DOE'S have a clue (allbeit, a small one). But he has gone several steps OVER the line on this project. Some people (street "wheelers") just don't feel they are tall enough until they look freeway overpasses on an "eye to eye" basis...

I have heard from a guy who lives next door that he might be selling it, so there is a chance of salvation for this CJ (if we can wean it off the 'roids ;))

quote: you don't often have to see a Jeep get LOWERED to be trailable....

Here's a couple shots of my clubs newest member's Jeep. When he bought this thing it had Scout Dana 44's, seemingly locked front and rear, SOA with mysterious 4" springs, 8" long shackles, 2" traction lift + 1" blocks. It had 31" tires on it, and these huge side steps made out of expanded metal mesh and angle iron, about 3' by 3', yes, feet. two or three people could stand on them, and they were about 8" from the ground with the 31's on. The rear bumper was 6"x6" 1/4" wall tubing, 72" long, it looks to have had a winch on the front at one time, but they torched off the plate. The Jeep supposedly came from Florida, and it's definately no northern Michigan Jeep, very solid. It had a Chevy 350 with centerbolt heads, a TH400 and a Jeepster Dana 20, the Scout rear had disk brakes made from Scout front disk parts, it had new flowmaster exhaust, and the front drive shaft was in the back seat. We lowered the hell out of it, cracked open the axles to find a 4.11:1 front with a very, very, tight trac-loc, and a 3.73 rear with trac-loc, so we swapped in a 4.11 and a spool. The motor ran like a 134 L head, so he had a guy go through it for a paintjob (he paints cars for a living) Through a coat of paint on it and some tires (35" Trailclimbers for $85ea), as you see it here he's got about $6500 into it, including buying it in the first place.

it looks like the mud flaps are disconnects. They look attached to the receiver hitch.

The freeway mall rig was a TJ or YJ and yes, it was on 44's and 30/35's  This is a whole new deal. It's a full float 60 out of... well just about anything and 44.

Easy now on the mudflap comments. :flipoff2: I have em too.... however, they are detachable and I just leave em in the back. Got off one already... "oh, dang officer, I'm sorry, I left and forgot to put em on... here, I'll do it now..." :D :D so far, so good.

1. The original post belongs in Chit-Chat.
2. If the owner had posted those pics and said, "Look at me", it would be a different story and open season. He did not.
