In an effort to get my carb (stock carb on a '85 Toyota) to run better at angles I set my float level on the low side. I also attached a rubber hose to the vent in the venturi and routed it up and inside the air cleaner. Today I bought a fuel pressure regulator. I've been told a bunch of different setting so try. Some have said 1.5-2.0 psi, while others have said that 2-3 psi works well. I want to run the lowest psi possible without starving the engine. How do I know what the minimum psi is that is safe? I don't want to wreck my engine <IMG SRC="smilies/maggie.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/crybaby2.gif" border="0">.

I have a weber so it's not exactly the same, but I used to run mine at 1.5 and I still had problems on the steep stuff. This last weekend I went to moab and turned it to the minimum 1 psi and this time I had no problem running up the steep slickrock. Best time I've had down there in a long time. I'm not sure if that was the ticket but it sure is a coinkydink. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

If it stalls or boggs-out, it may be set too low, but it will not harm the engine.

Just start with the lowest and work your way up till you are happy. I run 2.5, but I have a six in my jeep

If its carbed it shouldn't harm the engine. Crank it down till it stalls then fire it up on notch. The setting might be different for the road then for wheeling.

I had a weber that I set at 4 on the road and 1 on the trail.

Oh this is good news. I thought that I might be running the engine to lean if I had the psi turned way down.

I have mine set to 2psi works great. Big difference on the trail compared to when I was running 6psi.

I just did some testin and I was able to cruise in third gear at 4500 rpm's with the fuel pressure regulator set at 1 psi.
