Remounting the radiator in the Pig and got the fan hard mounted to the radiator support. I have a SB 400 wtih a 700R4 running through the radiator for cooling and also through a good sized aux cooler. The problem is the cooler takes up over half of the radiator surface and will be mounted on the back side of the radiator.
1. Does the aux cooler reduce the cooling capabilities of the radiator by slowing down the flow of air through the radiator? and 2. Is the aux cooler really necessary with built in cooler in the radiator?
Thanks

The aux cooler should be mounted in the front of the radiator so it can get cool air if possible. Yes, you want aux cooler if you want your tranny to enjoy a long life.

The easiest way is to mount it behind the radiator. I might be able to mount it in between the electric fan and the radiator but it will be a really tight squeeze. I could just mount it to the front hoop of the bumper.:grinpimp:

I think Georg is gonna have a coniption fit if you use that type of tranny cooler; the dimple type is MUCH better, more robust and cools bettah. They may even be smaller and thinner too? (Georg??) Oh, and don't use flex ties to attach it to the radiator; that is a big no no - they chaffe the radiator tubes and you will ultimately end up with leaks. Lastly, I would not mount it behind the radiator. It looks as though you have a bit of room to move the radiator back a bit to squeeze the cooler in front? Good luck.

those coolers SUCK!:shaking:
get yourself a better aux cooler and keep it in front of the rad if possible. the one you'd wanna run should be a "twisted tube" style cooler, not a 'tube and fin" cooler like the one you have now. those things work ok for AC stuff, but they're not very efficient when it comes to cooling automatics or power steering systems.
the twisted tube coolers are much smaller due to their efficiency as well, so they're easier to mount.
get something along these lines:

Definitely keep it in FRONT of the rad... no ifs ands or buts..
Personally, I'd ditch the mechanical and run a Mark VIII or taurus fan as a puller, but that pusher is hurting airflow.
325hp V8, and a not huge radiator (IIRC, 15x26), and it never gets over 205 even on 100° days.
