Just got back from Clayton great place to wheel. I go about 6 or 7 times a year. Plus My club puts on two events each year in clayton. Memorial Day High Country Trail Ride and Oktoberfest. Places to wheel are Green Acres just north west of town, you drive through town to get there. There is also the south side about 5 miles south of town 2 miles east to the horse/camping grounds. And also Frielings land north east about 15 miles.

Based on your rig specs you would have a good time at Southside as well as Green Acres. Most any weekend up there is not crowded, except at Memorial Day. The folks at the A & A have always treated us well. Also make a stop in and see the folks at the video/pizza joint, good eating. And of course you have to go by and meet Slim and dig around and see what interesting parts he happens to have laying around.

We ran about 100 yds into GM Extension and then out, had a couple of full-bodied rigs that were less than enthusiastic about the bounty trail. Just getting TO the actual Bounty Trail is an ordeal.
Donnie, the "left" way in is good, not really off-camber.

Don't forget the trails south of town and Freiling's place as well. I believe it would be possible to spend a week in Clayton and not cover everything.

No, I meant right once you went left out of the creek. Sorry.
Basically you go to nearly the end of the creek. Where we are going out to the right and looping back out, you take a left out of the creek. The place the buggies were beating themselves silly on the last Got Bent DVD.
From there you go up to the first ledge (about 100 yrds) and then you traverse the mountain back toward Walk in the Park (Wench Required :shaking: )
Just before you get there, you turn RIGHT up the mountain. From there, you are 3 major ledges from being at the top and collecting the STILL STANDING Blacksheep Bounty for making it up unassisted.
I have tried it 2 times and broken a Tcase once and a driveshaft the last time.
I will try again and do wish others would too. The more it is run the better chance we will have for another extreme trail in Clayton.

Go through Green Mamba and the extention. At the end of the trail you can go three ways; right takes you back to the trail head, left takes you up to the mountain climb(ive never went but is is NASTY!), and strait takes you here:

I don't think we've ever made it to the end of the extension trail. We usually run all the trails up to it and by the time we get about 1/2 through, we take one of the exits off to the right. Next time up there, we might have to just skip straight to the extension and run it to the end.
Also Blacksheep BLVD is decieving(thats me sitting o the rock ledge):
That is where I broke the front ring and pinion that weekend too.

You are a bit less than 4k high on the bounty. :D
It still has not been done without taking a winch.
I am tired of trying too. I can routinely make it through the extension portion up to the hill climb to the left where the Bounty itself starts, but after that, it just keeps getting uglier and uglier.
Noone has done it as far as I know - I think only billyji and I have made it to the top on the end of winch cables much of the way.

just got back from Clayton, KT's climb was awesome,
it does not look as difficult as it was,JOJO started and made the first part without a winching then I made it, the part where the off camber meets the straight climb, there was a large rock in the center, I went to the right of that then Lance M., followed to the right coming up the straight climb, then Clint also made it without winching startinag at the off camber side. A couple more trails then near the end of Cakewalks first section,Lance blew up his transfer case,
after towing Lance in, we made a night run, Wet-n-Wild, Jeffs Ledges, Waterfall, GreenMomba, then finished on three Trail, whoa, has Three Trail gotten more challenging or what
had a great time
and yes NO PICS
had to much fun wheeling
oh yea, the next morning I noticed broken D60 nuckle
I don't know how I got back, split in half

I am probably wrong on the bounty. It was a I heard from somebody, who heard from somebody deal. Did you go up the hill to the left and out the top? when we were there we couldn't tell where the trail was after you turned left and went up the first hill. It was our first trip there, we will be back with about 10 to 15 rigs in March again for a week. I am already getting excited.

You go up the ledge from the creek, it doglegs left a little and goes up until you cannot go up anymore. Then it traverses the hill to the left (back the way you came) until you almost get back to Walk in the Park trail. That part is all easy (relative to your rig) and has been driven without a winch by lots of folks. Just before you get back to Walk in the Park the trail (if you can call it that) turns uphill. From there on out it is a winchfest.

The Bounty Trail entrance up the hill to the left is easy to find if you take a compass on the trail with you. The compass needle points right to it due to the density of broken ujoints, tcase adapters, links, driveshafts, etc... Just keep and eye out for the EPA dudes in HazMat suits there looking at all the tranny and diff fluid spills. LOL!
:)
I hate that trail now.

not as much water this year , but colder
Sunday and Monday was great
the group we ran with, ran Blacksheep, the first climb all the way through the trail that ends up at the start of Cake Walk, then we ran Cake walk
Monday it was like a ghost town, not many wheelers left
we ran upper Slim's Slope, it is rated only a 'X', we went and looked at lower Slim's Slope, it is rated a 'XXX', not do able without a lot of wenching, then we ran Walk-n-the- Park, man this trail has went from challenging to 'BAD ASS', the end of it is nasty, the Jojo crawled the last bad section, AWESOME Joe
oh, Patty drove the entire trail, even the bad section, also awesome Patty, my wife

theres three main places in Clayton,OK. old clayton (Three Stage), Frielings, & Green Acres. All is on private land and all three places are open 7 DAW.
It would be tough to cover all three in 3 days!!!
donniepatt
01-07-2008, 10:01 PM
You can do Freilings in a day with good rigs and a good leader, the south side on has a couple trails with a few hard spots, over all the south side has longer runs than all the others,
then there is Green Acreas, aka 'Rudy's Place'
this place can be done in 2 days if no breakage and a good trail leader
Green acreas has a lot of 5 plus trails and a few 'X' rated
we have rated the trails 3 to 5, then X
Green Acreas 4 ,would be most places extreme
and the X rated are the most challenging
what gets you at green acreas is the rocks do not stop
you clear one rock to find another, another,another,.....
the creek run is the most popular
Wet-n-Wild, Jeffs Ledges, Green Momba, Green Momba extension
the first two are rated 4, green momba is a 5+,
and the extension is harder yet
its a great place to wheel
the local law lets you wheel to and from the 2 hotels in town to Green Acreas, you do need lights working-about the only requirement, and no speeding or running stop signs, there is no traffic lights in this town
if you want a list of hotels go to
www.cowntown4x4.com
there is a link for all lodging in area

Wow, I had no idea that our great state of Oklahoma had such bad assed trails...
Is there some trails for beginners to Novice experence, with lockers front and rear, and "small" 35-38 in tires??
I just got to really test my Bronco II this weekend for the first time. I am ready to try a little more diffucult trails.
I am going to have to run some sort of CV on my front driveshaft. My shaft angle is 18° at normal ride height. If I get on a very steep hill, it binds up badddd.. I need to get that figured out before I get much more extreme.
THanks, Todd S.

It looks like your rig is good enough to have some fun in. Grand lake is a really good place to go for you then. Its more of an open, where all the rock climbs are is a few areas then a few other trails. There are decent roads going close to most the places if something breaks and there are mild places to climb or extreme. Russ Hogan runs a camp ground there and he has a work shop thats pretty much open to the people that camp on his place. It has a welders and other handy tools there to get you back on the trail if needed.

You can expect to see 200 plus rigs bangin on the rock and takin there shots at the most un forgiving rock climb in Oklahoma; Viagra Hill. My family attends this this run every year - there is always pleny of action going on.
