I have not seen the light of day since before the IH Naches trip...:(

I have been in Orlando, Virginia, and all on odd travel schedules...

I landed from Orlando on Wednesday...then drove to Yakima to see my boys. I could not let more than a week or two go by without seeing them.

This morning after only getting two hours of sleep I am now in Vegas for the week...Sunday to Sunday...

:(

The good thing is that it is hard to spend money when you are not home to spend it...the bad thing is that I forget what city I am in, and what day it is...

I hope to be working on the Scout very soon though...:(

This was the IHSTO annual Dunes trip to the South Oregon Coast. I didn't take the Scout this year as I couldn't afford the fuel, so I hitched a ride down with IHC-6 and his family and sat around and enjoyed the campfire and company all weekend. Saturday we had our typical IHSTO potluck, we all ate our selves silly, bench raced and BS'ed. It was a great way to end the summer!!:D:D:D

Damn HOS, that sucks. I know i've read it before, but WTF do you do that you travel this much?

Sat- spent the 4th day in a row trying to figure out why the hell my new clutch didn't work. Finally let myself realize how dumb I am and that I put the clutch in backwards:mad3: My first clutch job, and i'll never make this mistake again:shaking:

Saturday did some stuff around the house, replaced a few sprinkler heads my wife swears she didn't run over, killed some bugs and brown patch I hope and got a little loopy from too much Diazinon and Fungicide exposure.

Sunday tried to install a purge / drain valve on my air compressor but blew another plastic Parker hose, time to get serious and bend some metal tubing I guess. Went to reach under the compressor and out ran a spider so I bug bombed the garage and while that was soaking in I made a quick trip to the pick-n-pull looking for ideas on how to mount a radiator and just scrounged around a bit and then came back and finished tearing out the front of the Scout.

I cut the front cross member in half to use as a base for my winch mount, test fitted the winch and cleaned up the garage some. Have to get a mounting plate design figured out and a bumper design as well, got some ideas but low on the priority list right now. Also ordered some cable shifters for my Dana 300 from NorthWest FabWorks.

Got fan?

That clutch is gonna be tight against the rad. Don't plan on changing any belts unless you pull the fan or rad.

Fri: went camping with friends on a buddy's land, scoped out some spots for trails/obstacles to wheel on.

Sat: shot the guns, ate BBQ and headed home very tired

Sun: changed the oil and fuel filters in the Diesel, moved furniture and riped up carpet in the living room :barf:

Friday afterwork hitched up the trailer and went to Central Oregon - Groundhog Quarry to be exact.

Got there way late and meet up with Binderbound and a couple other Scout guys.

Went on a scenic cruise Saturday - the wash board roads where so damn bad I broke a shock mount on a gravel road... Did a little night wheeling in the rock pit. Lots of steak, fire and beers.

Shot the guns Sunday morning and then wheeled some more in the rock pit - even let the wife drive for a while - too bad she can't see over the hood or out of the window to know where she is going :D

Weather was out-freakin-standing! 70 degrees and sunny during the day - blue skys as far as you could see.

Didn't break anything major - rattled a ton of stuff loose on my trailer and got a bad trailer tire. I managed to get 14 mpg out of the dodge towing 8000 pounds 400 miles over the pass and back.

Binderbound and the others are still over there as I type - I'm sure he will give a full report.

The fan is from a mid 70's Chevy something, it was the biggest 7 blade that would fit the stock shroud. I had custom brackets mounted on my old radiator and used poly bushings to mount it to absorb some of the flex and it all fit just fine, have about 3/4" of clearance between the fan clutch and the radiator.

Finished laying 240 sf of tile, got U bolts/spring perchs/plates from the local trailer supply for the SOA/axle swap. (good place to find burly cheap U bolts, etc.) The junkyard was rearranging and couldn't get my other set of springs cut out of the truck yet.

I think I'm going to put the chevy 52" up front and the longer 56" BII springs in the rear, might stretch the WB a few inches...not sure yet.

I would plate whats left of that cross member with some heavy plate and run a straight steer device too. Your winch will be up there nice an tight:smokin:

I went to the Fall Rallye, we did some light wheeling with a big group. Lot of people cam out with a lot of cool Rig's

I plan on making an pseudo C / L shaped bracket out of 1/4" steel plate I have and weld it into what's left of this crossmember, to the frame sides and also run gussets from the underside to my reverse shackle cross tie bar directly underneath it. Winch will be bolted to that and front bumper will just be bolted to the frame but not actually 'hold' the winch.

I haven't built a straight steer brace yet, want to do one but also want to tie it into a front skid plate support bracket somehow ... still a lot to do.

that's a clean blue 800!

I did some body work, both both sides sectioned and tacked back in place (see my thread for a pic).

Engine and interior was nice too, not sure why the bumper was not painted, suspect they were going to do something different.

Doc is going to be disappointed you did not say anything about his "classic" green scout.

North Texas Binders had their annual Round-up at Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer, TX. I took Gay Scout and ran a few mild trails, cause I'm wanting to make it a DD. But, had a good time anyway. I definately don't know how to wheel an automatic. Going up hill is okay, but down was a different story. Here are a few pics. The pictures of Gay Scout don't really show the side angle very well. But, look at the way the passenger and I are leaned to get a better idea.

Now I'm motivated to finish the real project truck. Ordered the Miller 625 plasma cutter today.

We missed Bill USN-1 and jpeater this year. Hopefully next year.

Did the :rainbow: scout come with a pair of acid washed jeans and a Ratt T-shirt in the back seat? The 80's called... they want their "rad" vinyl graphics back :flipoff2:

You know HF has heat guns on sale all the time...those would peel right off.

Only problem is... they don't peal right off. Even with heat every one of those little squares is a bitch (no pun intended.) They've been on there so long they are a real pain.

My Scout bested the entire field in the obstacle race with a buddy of mine behind the wheel, and I was leading the Baja pack with a good margin when the tire went down.. after 2-3 miles on the flat we got it changed, but not before the battery quit, and the LF reservoir shock took a beating from the tire... went out and made one more fast lap, but boiled all of the coolant out and called it a day.

Hauled a 60 and a 14-bolt around, along with a 10-bolt and an IC392.. the Travelette squatted a little, but rode nice.

We wheeled with some other IHers from Ks and Ok. Good time and this was the first time out for mine with new stuff and just a small issue with front driveshaft that I'll have to address. Not really sure how yet but I'm sure something can be done about the shaft rubbing tranny pan lip when pass. tire is dropped or when drivers tire is stuffed.
