I am building a hybrid Unimog. The original design of the 'mog has lots of little quirks, which is making the project a bit "interesting". And these problems lead to these questions:

1. Can you clock (rotate) an engine w/o problems?
2. How many of you are running dry sump oiling systems?

Explanation for the questions:

The reason for clocking is that the Unimog tranny sits about 4" offset to the passenger's side, and was originally designed for a I4, where I am using a V6. Unfortunately, due to the design, I can't move the tranny.

So by clocking the engine, I can gain the clearance needed. I am planning on about 10* of tilt. I also have to build an adaptor plate between the engine, and tranny, so clocking the engine is as easy as drilling the holes in different places. The engine is Fuel Injected, so I won't have carb problems.

The dry sump question stems from the tilted engine.

What motor are you planning on running? Are you going to clock it to the side of the oil pickup or away from it?

I don't see it being a big deal IMHO. The only thing I would worry about is getting a correct dip stick reading after the rotation.

The engine is a Nissan 3.0l V6.

It is to be rotated toward the pickup.

Check the top of the heads to make sure oil will drain down to the pan and not pool in the valve cover ( on the low side) and leak. Other than that is should not be a problem- Ive seen a llot of engines run upside down!:p
