Got a question for you guys. I bought my Cruiser with the distributor changed over to HEI. The guy used a Chevy I-6 distributor with an external coil. When a friend of mine was helping me tune it up, he must have knocked a wire off or something  I'm getting no fire at all now. My question is: where is the 12v supply supposed to come from and where would it connect to the ignition system with my set up? I looked all over the distributor and coil looking for the 12v connection and I can't find a damn thing. Does it hook to the coil? If so where? Right now all I have is the two wires that are in the harness that clip into the coil and run into the distributor and attach to the condenser and ignition module. I know this can't be all. You have to have a battery source don't you? This thing has me all bumfugled since I didn't put the damn thing in to begin with. If know one knows from my descriptions I'll take a couple digital shots this afternoon. Thanks!
BTW- This is a 1973 FJ40 with stock F engine

External coil should have one wire coming off the truck that is 12v with the key on....Josh just switched his boat with an inline Chevy six from points to this same system, boat or Josh are not here now or I could quiz him.....if you have 12 v at this terminal the 2 common items on the HEI that fail ar ethe rotor, and the modul, it's under the rotor, held down with 2 small bolts and is not a bad item to carry as a spare if you go into the boonies much, I run the HEI on my 350 LC and I carry one. Our local O Reilly's Auto has a tester for these.....

I and not real familiar with this model, but if you have an external coil, the ignition hot wire will go to one side of the coil. The other wire will either go to an external igniter or if it is a part of the distributor, it will go to the distributor.

Igniter-Toyota term
Module-GM term ......... same item
The other wire does go into the base of the dist.

Here are a couple of pics of what I have:

Does the coil need a hot lead from the wire in pic "wires2.jpg" *That is the old coil from the stock ignition. If so where on the coil does it hook up? It has to have a hot 12v feed to the coil right?
