: Magpul haters
aloharover 10-21-2007, 09:17 AM Figured this deserved it's own thread instead of getting stuck in my project.
Why do people hate MP so much?
I got to play with their CTR stock and it is better then the stock 6-pos that comes from RRA, DPMS, or DS. It is better then Colt's 4-pos. I like the fact that it locks up tight and doesn't make a sound no matter how much you shake it. I know I am no longer sneaking through the woods at night, but I still appreciate this. As far as shooting I never found the wobble in the stock 6-pos to be an issue, but noise is. Also the rubber pad is more comfortable after long term firing. The pad on the CTR and on the CAA 6-pos also helps the but stick better, especially when wearing a vest.
I have a PRS and it is a great adjustable stock. I can't find anything at all to complain about.
I have some of the MIADs and I like the customizability of them. I like the softer Hogue or Ergo myself. But the MIAD is a good grip. I think keeping three spare rounds in the grip is flipping stupid. But spare batteries or a back up bolt is a good idea.
The CAA sniper stocks are on back order, but it will be nice to do a side by side comparrison when it does show up.
As well as the .308 AR I am building I am also working on a DMR and will be using the PRS on that.
I have never, ever used a plastic mag. I was all about the USGI mags until I started using the new Brownells. But I know many people that are currently down range and have gone out and purchased the PMag out of their own pocket and find it better then new issue.
I don't like the ranger plates, but thats just because they are hard. As far as the orginal rubber magpul its a great idea. But all my mags are done up using 100mph tabe and I have no complaints and cant see spending 5$ per mag to change them.
Just wondering.

TheRedHorseman 10-21-2007, 09:42 AM I'd say they are like HK, it's about 75% the company, and 25% the groupies.
Their namesake: the magpul. A $5 rubber replacement for $0.02 worth of 550 cord or 100mph tape. Glock magpuls? Come on.
The "enhanced" trigger guard that merely lets the incredibly stupid morbidly obese shoot their AR15 without bothering to fold the trigger guard down.
The two use and throw away P-mag speaks for itself, they are problematic.
The MIAD grip is fairly comfy, but why add extra weight to an already overloaded rifle by stuffing ammo or parts in the pistol grip? Stick that crap in your gear.
As for stocks, just get a damn A1 or VLTOR stock if you're really worried about noise. I'm so sick of people jacking off their AR15s by sliding the stock in and out at every opportunity that I'm going to ditch my collapser in favor of an A1 stock.
The names annoy me too. "Ranger" plates, as though they were standard issue for the Bat. I emailed an old Army buddy of mine who is a Ranger out at Hunter, he hasn't seen one.
Now the groupies.
They are just like HK groupies. "Oooh magpul this, magpul that, magpul makes everything on my rifle!" "My rifle shoots .5 MOA better with the enhanced trigger guard!" And lord forbid you start talking bad about their holy company. In the face of anti magpul blasphemers they whip out the HK-esque "Oh you're just jealous because you can't afford it." line.
So to sum it up, Magpul exploiting a market filled with obese non shooters who have fantasies of being Dick Marcinko or a Rainbow 6 operative. They buy all of this useless crap and think it makes them a better shooter. Hats off to them for making a buck off of retards, but damn I can't stand them.
Schmozilla 10-21-2007, 09:59 AM I bought P-Mags because they were $11 each and in stock, no other reason.
Frankenyota 10-21-2007, 10:08 AM I bought P-Mags because they were $11 each and in stock, no other reason.
Where'd you find them for that price? I'm a fan of a lot of Magpul's stuff also. I have a PRS stock, it kicks ass. I have a CT/R stock, it kicks ass. I don't really care for the magpuls themselves, or the ranger plates, and the trigger guard is useless, but their enhanced mag followers are awesome. I have a couple of the PMAGs and they have been flawless, after a couple of range trips with them in Iraq they made their way into my regular carry gear. I've seen plenty of first hand experience with them that is good. I think Magpul suffers from crappy advertising and marketing (and pricing), they need some real business managers to help them out, but their products are for the most part great, and their customer service is unreal. I, for one am looking forward to the Masada, it brings a lot of rifle to the table for the cost of a similarly equipped piston M4.
Bill4rest 10-21-2007, 10:26 AM I love my CTR stock. but as I stated before I thought I was getting a stock/buffer tube/nut and end plate. But alas I'm a moron. $95 for just the stock??? I knew then I got ripped:laughing: But it's nice. and I'm really thinking about the PRS stock for my AR-10 and I did order a MIAD grip for it becuase I think they feel better than the stock grip.
I will say I bought a couple of Pmags for the "bling" factor, but after using them I fell they are junk, fail to feed on the third of fourth round.

Any people having problems with PMAGs will be taken care of by the company. Give them a call and they'll exchange your mags for new ones, no questions asked.

Well I would guess they will not help me becuase I'm in CA again. So I'm screwed.

So basically you despise them because they are successful capitalists?

Since they are just sending replacement mag bodies (repair parts) it doesn't hurt to ask. Obviously there are no pre-ban PMAGs though, so they may not hook you up.

Bill, if they wont help you, send me the mags and I will exchange them.
I know a number of people in the Army that are deployed and are using the current versions on a daily basis with out a single problem.

That's good to here, They should not have feed problems in country. I just learned that our weapons guys got some in for testing. I'm not hip on military guns and uses but whats so wrong with the standard GI/colt mags???
Our guy's are using the HK mags that seem very nice.....except they are a little heavier.
Pete thanks for the hook up.:D
Drunk tank 10-21-2007, 09:31 PM I have a Magpul CTR, two enhanced trigger gaurds, a H-Buffer, and a two MIAD grips.
My take is I use what works best for me... dont really give two shits about the company. The CTR I purchased when they made a limited run of prototypes way back when... love the stock! Well built piece of hardware... dont know anyone that can deny that.
The enhanced trigger gaurds... I got them because I figured itd give a little more room when wearing gloves.... and Im not gonna lie... i jus tthought it looked cool. :D
H-buffer... self explanatory.... needed a heavier buffer and it came with a damn nice spring.
The MIADS.... by far the one thing I can say I LOVE from Magpul. I tried Tangodown and hoage... but that MIAD with the large backstrap works perfect works my ape hands. I however, do not use the storage compartment. My rifle is heavy enough and all it has on it is a freaking scope!
As for the magpul mags and those little grab thingies... never tried them and dont have any reason to. They honestly seem a little silly and overpriced to me. I use all C-Products mags and they work great.... They do come with magpul followers in them though... but whatever.. the price is right when buying them straight from C-products.
planefixer 10-22-2007, 10:06 AM I have the MIAD on my AR and its very comfortable- no experience with any of their other products though.
Jason R 10-22-2007, 11:39 AM I think the name of the company is a little silly, but you can't change that now.
I do like some of their products...such as the CTR and the (OH NO) "winter" trigger guard...
The Masada looks interesting enough as well...
Drunk tank 10-22-2007, 04:12 PM On another note.... anyone that says Magpul is overpriced shouldnt even own an AR15. There is NOTHING cheap about them! There are no "cheap" true quality parts (magpul/Vltor/RRA/Novenske/Larue/Daniels Defense/LMT) on the market that are uber great. Even average is expensive.... hell.. the ammo alone could put the average man in the poor house. A GOOD/high quality AR build probably runs $1600/$2500and thats not including an optic.
You want a cheap hobby, buy an AK or a 10/22
Ah Pook 10-22-2007, 05:51 PM The "enhanced" trigger guard that merely lets the incredibly stupid morbidly obese shoot their AR15 without bothering to fold the trigger guard down.
Or maybe for shooting with gloves.
I picked up a couple of Magpulls and Pmags from the factory. Nice guys. No problems, so far. My set-up is very basic, so most of their other stuff is way too chi chi.
Looks like there is a market for overpriced, moderately engineered, tacti-cool products?

Dude you shop at the wrong places.
PONY_DRIVER 10-22-2007, 06:20 PM You want a cheap hobby, buy an AK or a 10/22
 I've seen 10-22's that would blow some of the uber tacticool AR's out of the water when you stack up the dollars.

:eek::eek::eek:
I've never put that into either of my two ARs and they did include optics
aloharover 10-22-2007, 06:31 PM Colt 6920 for 1325$.
You can't really beat that for a quality M4 carbine. Pretty much the standard all the others are measured against.
You might be able to spend half that and build one, but the quality won't be anywhere near the same.
I would say 8-900 for a good one
