I came home last night around midnight there was no wind. I was woke up around 2 am, with my portable garage making a bunch of noise. By 3:30am I had to take it apart because the wind was beating me to it. Around 7am my gate came down taking the column with it. It broke some stuff that it landed on. I had to clean up stuff that was knocked/blown over. Aorund 5pm my neighbor come over and asked if I had seen the fence. What are you talking about? The fence on the otherside of the house, on the hill, went down!:mad3::mad3: I now have no gate on my rv side of the house and no fence on the hill on one side!!! I hope the local theives don't notice my lack of gate into my backyard. Or code enforcemnet!!!:(
What damage has this wind caused you? BTW we 2 more days of the crap!!!!

not too much damage here today, besides loosing many branches and the power was out for a few hours. Cal edison said over 800 homes in long beach were without power due to wind related failures.
BTW my yard is a mess!

Nothing major yet, but realistically I don't have much that can blow over. I'm just hoping another fire doesn't get going up here again.
Wind sucks.

the lake bed out at the hammers was flat out nasty on saturday, we were sitting at the top of wrecking ball and you could look towards the lakebed and see a huge wall of dust and sand. I had to stop at one point on the way back cause the sand was blowing so bad I couldnt see the ground at all, freakin nuts.

Kinda OT but a SCTA offical at land speed races out at El Mirage today got hit by a car coming off a 200 mph run. The wind kicked up half way thru his run and the sand blocked his view. He missed the speed traps veered way off the track and slammed into the SCTA's guy car, throwing him out of his car. It was bad.
He had to be airlifted out.

My parents' neighbor had a tree come down on his truck, saw an overturned Semi on my way to work so they had that Hwy. closed down and EVERY single traffic light was out on the alternate route, not too mention all the trees and street and buisness signs that were all knocked down, almost every tree in a park that's about 3 blocks away from here, making me about 45 minutes late...No real damage though thank God,exept for mine and my wife's cars covered in dirt.

well there are tree branches down all over the place and fences blown apart everywhere you look. The real bad news is up on the hill. Arrowhead is being taken over by fire and there is one broken out just up the 15 from me. My thoughts are out to the people in Arrowhead.

I grabbed my tow rig, and my wifes car, along with photos and a few other things, but my daily driver and wheelin rig are sitting on the parking deck, probably burnt up by now, if I am looking correctly at the maps of the fires up here :( I won't know for sure though until I can go back up there.

You know I saw one there on the eastbound side right by the overpass on Mon morning that was right side up but the trailer was smashed on top. Then I saw another one just like it yesterday afternoon. I think the trucks on the overpass were blown over onto them?

This is the email my brother sent me of what had happened:
I thought you all would be interested in my story about "when sheds attack":
At about 7:05 am, I went out to check on the back yard and get the dogs. The wind was blowing very hard with gusts that must have been 60-70mph After the dogs walked in, I shut the door and turned around. After I turned around, I heard a loud crash. I looked in the back yard to see my neighbors shed flying towards my house, right where my dogs where playing moments before. I stood there in disbelief as my neighbors shed rolled through my yard taking out my fruit trees. After a moment, I realized the shed appeared to be stopped, providing no more large gusts hit. I raced my truck around to the shed owners house. I beat on the door, when the guy opened I told him what had happened. He didn't seem to understand until i pointed out his back window to where his shed used to be. I drove back to my house and tried to think of how to prevent the shed from blowing into my house. It came to me, I have some threaded rods that my dad gave me and the jack hammer he also lent me. I cut the bars into 3-4ft sections and used the jack hammer to pound the bars through the structural members of the shed into the ground to anchor the shed. The neighbor (who is a renter) was very helpful in assisting me to anchor the shed. I spent the next couple of hours driving about 15-20 bars into the shed.
After i felt the shed was secured and would not damage my house, i called my insurance. I then checked out how the shed was anchored to the concrete slab. From what i can tell, the bottom of the shed was not anchored directly to the pad. It only had small sheet metal clips bolted to the slab and screwed to the sill plate of the shed. From what I can tell, some clips broke and some of the nails pulled out of the sill plate. At any rate, clearly, the shed was not sufficiently bolted to the foundation. I doubt they had the shed permitted; from talking to the city, for that size shed, it should have been permitted.
I then propped up the fence with some 2x4s to keep my dogs in the yard.
I have the property managers number, i need to call him tomorrow to find out about removing the pile of scrap metal from my yard, fixing the damage to the fence, and buying me some new fruit trees.
Any advice you might have to make sure i don't get a raw deal would be appreciated.
So that is my story about "when sheds attack"
David
