Just got my Atlas installed, seems to get hot after driving around town 20 or 30 minutes, the over all case
seems to heat up just beyond the point of being able to hold my
hand on it, I have my exhaust very high & tight the first 6"ss of
my muffler is about 2" away from the output I'm not convinced this is an issue although I will put in some kind of heat insulation between the muffler & output for piece of mind, talked to A.A. about
it they said they have heard similar comments from others who have installed the Atlas II, A.A. advice was to
get about 100 miles on it and see if it's still heating up at that
point.
Just curious if anyone else with an Atlas II has a similar expierance
with theres running hot and if it will run cooler as it breaks in, TIA Tonto.

I'd be concerned if it was glowing - but hot nope - things get damn hot under your rig keep an eye on your temp guage for your eng. don't get concerned about your t-case -trans - or c/v joint on your driveline getting hot- these things are going to happen- they will talk to you if there's a problem- what tire are you running ? i'd be concerned about that 1/2 ton c/v joint breaking- :D Jess

Well, it is a gear drive t-case, and being new, it does have to break in....

Change your oil after a few hundred miles and see what it looks like and how it feels...

I was'nt to concerned about it untill I was at a 4X4 shop I kinda hang out getting a noise diagnosed in my rear end and they commented on the Atlas being hotter than they thought it should and my muffler being so close to my output they thought it would be bad for the output seal.
I'm running 4 or 5 year old Goodyears 15"X35" thinking of going to 37" and trying the CTM u-joints w/Moser or a comperable axle shaft in the front Dana-44 and seeing how that holds up.
Nice comparison pic, I would like to get some info on that Atlas mounted parking/e-brake I'v seen somewhere do you know where I can get that info. Thanx for the response, Tonto.

Hey nice pic on the axles and joints in your 44- on the heat issue i'd be willing to bet your 700 trans heats to aprox. 220 degree's and that will transfer real damn fast thru your aluminum atlas - that's what i'd contribute the heat to- now if you had a tera 60 i might be more apt to be concerned about things - heat and such- i hear things about those and oiling - as for our e-brake kit its what we call our atlas 4 when its bought with our patneted flanges and e-brake installed- its an add on to our 1350 c/v we already have and is mechanically accuated by your existing calbe set up- holding capablilty 2200 lbs of clamping force on the rotor we have (diameter 9 3/8) here's a pic of the set up- and we have sold aprox. 30 on atlas's and aprox. 110 total - we offer it on the dana 300- 205 ford chevy and dodge - dana 20 upgraded unit 32 spline and a bunch more- every thing but the toyota for now - most (not the dana 18 or rover yet- ) hope this helps- :D Jesse

That might be your problem... Hanging out with -those- guys! Anything under your truck getting too hot to comfortably hold your hand on is about normal.

Hey Jess.......how much longer does that ebrake make the output? I already have D/s length/angle probs, but would LOVE that kit!

The e-brake kit that High Angle makes for the D300 and the Atlas II is worth every penny, I ran one on my Dana 300 and run one on my Atlas now and they work and fit great.

Keith you asked if it makes the driveline any longer and the answer is NO if you are already running the 1 ton CV flange because the rotor bolts on behind the flange.

This is a top quality product from a top notch company.. :D
