Total Newbie here. Have been looking at forum for about 6 months and decided to join. Let me have if you feel the need, buy at least ponder this delema. I put an 8.8 from a 97 Mountaineer in the rear my 93 yj about three years ago. ( time flys ) It came with disc's, 4:10's and a tru trac limited slip. Finally getting around to front axle and choose rev. cut 44 to cut down a tad.
( trailer is only so wide. ) and the bolt pattern is of course 5 on 51/2. I know I can get adapters for the back to convert over to 5 on 51/2 but dont want ot over stress the axle bearing by basically adding width since I'm running 37 12.50 15. Who as seen any different types of rotors that could possilbly work, or is drilling and adding new studs the better way to go. Let me know what you think while you devise ways to let the NEWBIE feel welcomed.:nuke:

$50. Use locktite on the original studs.

Good luck

The existing rotors can be redrilled to 5 on 5.5, but I don't think that there is enough material on the axle shaft to redrill it. So you will probably have to get new shafts, or you could get a Warn Full Float kit if they are still available for the 8.8.

I'd recommend going with the adapters. This will help make your 8.8 a little wider, too. The additional 1 1/4" width isn't going to stress your bearings any more than reducing the backspacing in your wheel the same amount. Loc Tite on the factory studs is very important too!

When I put a Dana 44 on my explorer, I just got new shafts made from Dutchman Axles with a new bolt pattern and drilled new holes in my drums. This was because the stock axle flanges were 3/8" to narrow in diameter to be drilled to the new bolt pattern. Another guy changed to dics at the same time he did this swap, and got all the parts for it through Dutchman. You might want to contact them at dutchmanaxles.com to see if they can help you out with all the parts you will need.

Moser can redrill em or just make you some new units .
I'd have them make some new shafts then send the old ones in to get redrilled for spares.
Hard to find a 5 on 5.5 8.8 shaft in a junkyard if you need one quick ;)

I had Dutchman make new shafts for my 8.8 in the 5x5.5 pattern. They use screw in studs as opposed to pressed in. If you go this route be sure to get thin head studs. The head on the regular stud will interfere with the e-brake assembly and you will not be able to push the shaft in far enough to get the c-clips on.

Like has been mentioned above a few times, the stock flange is too small to drill the 5.5 pattern.
