I just replaced my 95A alt for a 130A unit a couple of months ago. When I first brought the new one home I gave it a spin and it was siezed up so I took it back and got another one. Now this one is making funny squealing and arcing noises. <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0"> I haven't even got the new alternator dirty yet!

It is a rebuild done by Bosch. I'm starting to doubt their ability to properly rebuild an alternator. Has anyone else had troubles with Bosch rebuilt alternators?

sounds like you are getting the belt too tight and burnt the bearings.

It is a serpentine belt. I'm not sure how or if I can adjust the tension.

Bosch Alternators are top notch stuff. They last forever when they are new.
There is no way BOSCH is rebuilding them. Some other company is doing the rebuild stateside. Other than something getting in them like Engine cleaner, the bearings rarely fail. Sounds to me like the rebuild company is either not replacing the bearings and just doing just enough to make them work (Brushes and deiodes). I have seen one lock up but it had 180k on it and was making plenty of noise for well over a year before it gave it up.
I would ask for your money back and try to find another place to buy them from or take it to a place that would rebuild your alternator and make sure they replace the bearings and check the end play.

That's not what the Bosch website says and the box that it came in said Bosch all over it. http://www.boschusa.com/AutoParts/AlternatorsStarters/Alternators/

Maybe I should see what the price difference is between the rebuilt ones and the new ones.

Have you looked under the hood of some fords lately? Some come with Bosch alternaotrs from the factory. The bosch alternator I fried at 180k was in a Ford product. It was the exact same alternator in my Mothers old 87 Jetta.

I still doubt Bosch is rebuilding them at a company owned facility for the state side. they probably have a contract with a company to rebuild them. They do that often. A freind worked at a company that rebuilt Bosch power tools. that company also rebuilt Dewalt, PG and Ryobi stuff.
That's some pretty lousy work that you had 2 of them crap out. It sounds like a Pep Boys Rebuild product. Go through 3 before finding a good one. I wonder if Bosch AG is aware of the quality problems.
