I want to go to this. I heard about this event from the flatbed tow truck driver that was giving my jimmy a lift home. The question is, are children welcome? I have 2 six year old girls that love to be helpers. Also is there a need for my silverado? Or should I just bring my Jimmy and that's it? Do we need something that will get us out onto the trails or just something that can go on fire roads. I have an ifs silverado and don't want to break it.

Bring either! You can use your Silverado on the 2wd roads, or your Jimmy if you feel like getting into different trails.
Kids are defenetly welcome! Bring the entire family!
Make sure to register, we need to know how many people to plan for!

*IMPORTANT*
February, 1, 2008
We received this today from the BLM Barstow Field Office.
"Unfortunately the permit for the Calico Poker Run has been denied. The BLM resource staff said that the poker run course is in a limited use area and runs through critical tortoise habitat. In order to permit this type of use they are going to require a complete environmental assessment rather than a categorical exclusion (CX). The CX means that there is no affect. They cannot sign off and say there is no affect without further consultation with the US Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Services. This is a lengthy process that takes a minimum of six months."
The clean up will go on as scheduled. The poker run on Sunday has been canceled as of todays' date. The Calico Clean Up committee wants to encourage a trail run after the raffle on Saturday afternoon or perhaps on Sunday for those wishing to explore the beautiful Calico Mountains.
This is a minor set back but our goal is to remain focused on the clean up and work closely with BLM to maintain and keep the Calico area open for access to all recreationalists. We appreciate your volunteer efforts and sincere cooperation to make this a successful event.
Should you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please direct them to the calico clean up committee at www.calicocleanup.com

Signed up today, thought I did it a couple months ago, but apearently I'm mildly retarded, got a good group together, clean-up on the 16th and run some trails then drink some beer on the 17th, head home on the 18th, or whenever we wake up, the whole place should be nice and clean if I decide to sleep in the dirt again.:flipoff2:
I'll be filming a short documentry while I'm out there too, part of a new idea I'm working on to try and promote desert and trail clean-ups, hit me up if you want 15 seconds of fame :homer:

Yup, I am not going to be able to bring the blazer unless there is some sort of miracle and it starts running right. What do I need to do? I registered as bringing a 4 wheel drive capable of going on trails. I am very limited with my IFS now.

While the rest of us were cleaning up the place on Saturday this idiot in his open Cherokee decided to clog Gatekeeper for most of the afternoon. When he was finally clear they threw his junk on a trailer and left without cleaning up any of the glass or fluids.

First let me say that for most of the day he, I and about 5 other rigs were cleaning up silver bow mine trail. We had 2 truck loads of metal and trash. Might not have seen that?
Second, we were trying our best to extract him, although I was not there when he got stuck, (I had just run it and was taking the bypass to get back down there to go run another trail) he seemed to fucker himself in there pretty good.
I’m pretty sure that he didn’t "decide" to clog the trail, he tried a trail that might have been (and obviously was) too hard for him and he broke. It happens.
And I’m not sure why you think he trailered it out of there, im sure that if you were there, you would have seen him drive it out.
As for any glass and/or fluid, if it was not cleaned up then that needs to be addressed, as it should have been cleaned up afterwards. I don’t know if it was cleaned up or not, but since most of your other facts were wrong, it very well may have been.

I saw him get stuck. I heard the conversation between him and his group about what an idiot he was. Shortly there after our group left and headed up Doran and spent the afternoon on the trail. We got back to camp around 5pm (camp was 1/4 mile from the gatekeeper). We were told by those in our camp wanting to run gatekeeper that he was blocking the canyon for over 3 hours. We went over about 5:30 and saw the glass and oily dirt that he left behind. We cleaned up what we could in the light we had left.
The only fact I may have wrong is the trailer part. The damage to his front end looked bad enough that we assumed it was trailered out.
After you extracted him you didn't notice that he drove off without cleaning up his mess? You didn't say anything?

We rolled up while they were trying to tow it out and things got out of control after watching them rip the winch cable out we steped over to make some suggestions on how to get the wheels stright everything was full throttle and when we wanted to move our trucks out of the way some others pulled up and i did yell at the driver to hold on not wanting him to drive into someone comments were made about us minding our own business and kicking our ass we left not wanting to overstay our welcome i understand the frustration getting stuck but when folks pull up offering to help remember if your going to attempt something like gate keeper expect to break stuff anyway we went back the next day and yes cleaned up the some of the oil and such not saying it was theres but there was a mess. other than that Calico and the sponsers did an outstanding job

After the extraction I ran the gatekeeper one more time, I then went around back to the canyon. At this time I was to assume that the people in our group were fixing the rig and cleaning up anything. Obviously I assumed wrong. By the time that I got back down, they were almost out of the canyon and I didn’t look to see if all was cleaned up.
but I will say thank you for cleaning up anything that was left, you should have never had to do it, but he (the one that rolled) either not realizing or knowing to clean up should have been the one to clean his mess. And when I see him again this will be addressed. Had I known/seen anything left I would have gladly cleaned it up. Hell, we were cleaning up crap all day on the trails.
Although I can’t be responsible for his actions, I can offer an apology for them, and in all sincerity thank you for your cleanup efforts.

Calico Cleanup was a great event and everyone who put that together and participated deserves a big ‘ job well done.’ A good time for sure and it all looks way better.
I added the Calico Cleanup video I made to the pictures on our club's web site. It is a little big and will take just a few moments to load (read as “never” for dial up users). Put on your head phones as the rocks fly! There is actually a full DVD version of this that is clear and entertaining.
