Will a 91 4.0 intake tb and exhaust manifold swap over to my 80's 258 so I can have fuel injection?

no it won't. the ports don't line up. use your motor to build a stroker out of a 4.0 maybe.

What should I do about a carb? I have a crappy carter 1bbl and it cuts out when climbing steep grades

*its a newly rebuilt 258 great motor

Howell or Holley TBI.

You should take your 4.2 258 and first put fuel injection on it through a kit. Look for a used one and you can get a decent price. Next put a performance header on it(i use a borla one). I have both fuel injection and a borla header and my 258 runs like a champ and runs awesome at high altitudes and steep hills. If the engine ever dies(from the tranny gear), it will just start right up even at 90 degree angles

I used to have the 258 and I understand your decision to keep it. Not a terrible motor, but the factory fuel delivery leaves much to be desired. Until recently I had the idea to replace my carb with fuel injection. I believe sombody makes an adapter from the jeep intake to a two or even a four barrel carb platform. from there your options are many. You can get a throttle body injection system for pretty much any displacement. That being said..........I swapped in a 93 4.0HO and have not looked back. I ran a Weber two barrel on the 258 before I pulled it and it was a great improvement over the carter all around. The driveability was great and the off camber stuff was not too bad considering it was a carb.

EDIT: Damn I take forever to type..............

I believe howell makes a kit to swap on GM TBI. IE: I have seen many 4.3TBI conversions.

The MC2100 should work just fine for you. Easily the best carburetor you can put on a 258. The 2100 is also one of the best carbs in off road situations. Weber do okay on the street, but require modification to be decent offroad. I've got about $50 tied up in my setup. I was tempted to go FI but I get excellent fuel mileage, and it performs just fine on the trail. Night and day difference.

You might need a manifold from a 2 barrel 258, but those are pretty much free.

Now, if you want to do fuel injection, you need to swap the 4.0 head. Not hard at all. Plus the 4.0 HO head is a decent upgrade. Just search for "4.0 head swap" in google/yahoo etc.

If interested in the 2100 swap, just search online for "MC2100 Jeep swap"

I would do the 2100. They flat out work.

I believe this is a 81-87 258 The reason I have a carter 1bbl is because I had thi s 258 rebuilt and pulled the manifold and intake from my 73 232 and after driving it on the trails I think the old 232 manifold/intake needs to go

Will a 91 4.0 intake tb and exhaust manifold swap over to my 80's 258 so I can have fuel injection?

The intake will bolt on with minor modifications but not the exhaust manifold.
you can easily fairly cheap do the swap if you have access to JY.

Read this (http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarticles/129_0309_efi_fuel_injection_258ci_jeep/index.html), it was done with Mopar MPFI kit, same parts as in your 91 4.0.

Speaking from California experience, there are no smog approved carbs for the 258 and only 3 EFI that I know of are approved, Mopar, (if you have the coin), Howell and one other (electro-motive?). You can put the 4.0 head and it's F. I. on the 258 block, there's lots of info on that. But it moves the torque peak up about 1000 rpm like the 4.0. I love the low end grunt of my 258 but the Carter is a pile. Smog is important because if your vehicle won't pass you can't register it and it's value is cut by about half.
