: Okay, I've been swayed
Im getting ready to start a new project, and have all the running gear lying around. I'd like to get away from jeeps in general and so my question. Before i even start lookin, what should I expect to pay for a fame/body/title 40 or 55 in CA?
The Jerk 06-20-2002, 10:33 PM 2 g's probably, i have a 76 tittle in super clean condition still . jiMMy
2g's for a body and frame? no axles or engine? Just to clarify.
The Jerk 06-20-2002, 10:41 PM depend son condition but maybe cheaper. not too much rust in cali member that. i paid 450 for just a clean title for my "68" wink wink, jiMMy
Yeah I also forget that there more money here than in AZ.. which is what Im still used to basing my prices on. So I hear ya.
wngrog 06-21-2002, 05:02 AM You will like the Cruiser world.
It is nice to be on the trail and around town in something unique!
It is a close knit group, you see a pre-93 Cruiser and chances are, the owner will wave at you......
In the Jeep world, I spent most of my time avoiding all the idiots with YJ's and 3" body lifts...
Welcome over to the Dark Side!
Deep South Cruisers 06-21-2002, 05:54 AM Pre 93  so true, I couldn't get a wave from a FJ80 if I was hanging out the window.

Aren't they just too preoccupied with talking on the cellphone and shushing the kids in the back seat to see your wave, much less, return it??;)
dpaton 06-21-2002, 07:48 AM Here in Ottawa, even some of the Heap guys/gals wave when I'm in the 40 but only other LC owners wave when I drive the 62s.

Me too... about the 40.. If they are mostly stock, I don't bother, but if they look like wheelers, I'll give 'em a wave for being one...
Around here, 40's (well, pre-'93 LC's in general) are so rare that we about fall out of our seats waving.. and 1/2 the time, I'm in my D/D Tacoma, and the guy in the 40 must think I'm nuts...
texican 06-21-2002, 09:48 AM Most basket cases in this area, go in the $500-1000 range. with the occational "deal" 9 more posts. til no more newbie!!!

Deep South Cruisers 06-21-2002, 10:04 AM post counts are highly overrated;)
texican 06-21-2002, 10:07 AM This coming from someone with almost 3k:flipoff2:
Butch

Tankota 06-21-2002, 10:12 AM Frame body title around WA would be in the $500-$1000 range depending on condition and whether there was a hardtop included etc.
Last few months I had seen a number of "projects" which actually had running gear in the $900-1000 range.
Texican, as for post counts...I ignore them (the post count) when I read a post by someone cause they don't mean anything. I can understand that you don't exactly like having a "newbie" name pasted under your webname though.
BTW, I've seen people on here who had a couple thousand posts but were asking (in the best idiot voice) "what's a full floater?"

That's about what Im used to as well Butch. And these guys are right, post counts are very overrated. I mean look at me, tons of posts and definatley a newbie :D
76Cruiser 06-21-2002, 10:37 AM I paid $1000 for my nonrunning rust bucket for some reason. Guess I am just a SAN. :flipoff2:
woody 06-21-2002, 10:46 AM Your pricing will be all over the place...CA is likely higher. Here in WI, I've bought 4 FJ40's in the past 10+ years
1) 1977, 305 conversion, otherwise stock, running - $1800 in 1989
2) 1974, 100% stock, new tires, old Warn winch, not running - $800 in 1991
3) 1969, junkyard find, lotsa useful parts, mostly complete - $200 in 1996 (my current wheeler)
4) 1972, supposed to run, complete - $75 in 2000
The 77 retired in 1991, but I've still got many parts from it, including a clean frame and title. The 74 got a motor transplant and then the tub/frame disintegrated in about 1997....the 69 had a good frame and we did a custom body behind the firewall, it's now titled as the 74. (don't tell) The 72 was an acquaintences parts cruiser, but he never took anything off cept the top and doors and then his wife said ditch it or die so he dealt it to me for $75 plus 4 used 32" tires.
Spend enuf time shopping, and deals will come up.
texican 06-21-2002, 01:10 PM Hey 76 Cruiser, who are you?

That is what I have been trying to tell Butch. Look at FJ60's date to POR, the only way to get that many posts is Chit Chat baby!
He is the Photo Chop MAN over there!
Funny stuff.:D

My name is Chris. No I have not been there. What is it? A shop? I would like to check it out sometime. I just got mine about a month ago. I have been getting the garage in shape so I can start working on it. I think I may have seen your truck out at Barnwell Mountain before. Nice looking rig. I love the paint scheme on it.
I go out there with a bunch of Xterras sometimes and play in my 2001 Frontier. I know IFS is :rainbow:, but that is why I bought this Cruiser. I want to make it into a bad a$$ trail rig. The nissan is my DD, and I am tired of buying new front end parts for it's crappy steering after I were them out in one weekend at Barnwell, not to mention how expensive other parts for it are. For example, a new 5.13 R&P set goes for $650 for just the rear end.

So very true!!!
Thanks for the input guys! :D Im now officially on the hunt. Decided against the 40 as I need more space for my kids. SO a 55 it'll be! Soon as I find one without running gear for a reasonable price :D
