So far no change in Trail Status that I know of. Always a good idea to call the ranger district to check closings (even if just for maintenance) before you go, though.

chuck told us today that lower 2, slick rock and peckerwood was going to be closed for a year for an impact survay and may be reopened, but they were going to open 4 new trails with at least 2 of them being at least as hard as the ones they are closing... is that true?

wow, I didn't hear anything about trail closings when we were there this weekend. A couple SFWDA guys in diesel cruisers were doing some work on 5 on saturday(from what I heard) and it looked like they were headed in today just before we rolled out. I didn't realize the ledge above slickrock was gone; nor the fact that there is now a fawkin highway around guardrail(My last trip was in June). I find it hard to believe they'd close 7 rather than Schoolbus for analysis. I don't understand closing lower 2 really either. Anyway, I'd like to know what's true or hearsay as well.

Yea on Saturday Trail 5 was closed and we saw a trac-hoe digging some of those wash trenches you see all along the trails. A zuk that was with us actually fell in one of those this last weekend it swallowed him.

Nothing can be confirmed as of yet. SFWDA has a meeting with the Forest Service in 2 weeks to hear what they have to say.
