Anyone have any expeirience with a V6 swap into a Samurai? I''m ditching my XJ in favor of another Suzuki (had a new 91) and plan on going all out on the build. I've seen a couple with Chevy 4.3's and am thinking along those lines or even possibly a later 2.8 or 3.4 crate motor (better fit?). I plan on keeping most of the body to keep it somewhat legal. Any opinions, ideas or sources of info?

What are you doing with it? Rockcrawler or a little of everything? For rockrawling I think the 4.3 + all the required running gear is a little too heavy and overkill, the Zuk's only asset is it's small size and weight, try and keep those two intact and you'll be off to a good start. Also keep emmisions in mind. My friend had to register his V8 powered Sammy in Colorado, after this year he can't do that anymore so he'll most likely have to buy a Willy's title and grill and register it as an old Jeep.

Mostly it's typical eastern woods, just a mix of everything although I do avoid deep mud whenever I can!! I'd like to have something that is mostly trail oriented but still driveable to and from the trails. I guess that would leave either the 1.6 transplant or a V-dub motor... the VW probably has more going for it in the way of performance and mods. Ugh.. the learning curve... I'm back near the bottom!!

Search.... well that would have been a good idea!
One thing I did find out though...FORGET the VW swap! Geeze! I can buy a whole, running Samurai for the price of the kit!!

I am extremely happy with my 1.6 Trail Tough installed. It has much more low end grunt and it still keeps the weight ratios low.

i would stay away from the V6 swap, to much weight!! go for the 1.6 or maybe swap a toy moter, and stronger yet still lightweight 4banger is all you'll ever need!:smokin:

Wheeled with a Sammi this weekend with a 400cid V8, 40" Boggers and Fj40 axles.
It broke a tie rod end on its panhard bar on a dirt trail, fixed that, then 10 minutes later broke a front axle trying to pull another Sammi out in the sand.
