: Headlight brightners

Swapped the Sylvania 65/55 headlights out of my new YJ with the IPF 100/90w lights in my old YJ last night. Didn't see any difference between the 2 (even with 1 "Syl" and 1 IPF next to each other.)

Soooo, i'm looking for a headlight brightner kit to make full use of the IPF's. I know Jacobs used to make one, but has stopped. Anyone else make 'em, or is there a good writeup on how to make one at home/parts needed?

BTW, used the search, didn't finad anything useful.....:(

All those kits are is a set of relays that allow you to feed directly from the battery to your headlights. Typically YJ's don't have that much of a problem in this area. Mostly they're used on older CJ's and the like. Save yourself the $30 or whatever and do it yourself.

Also, not flaming, but you might want to rethink about asking simplistic questions like this at POR in the future. It's not the typical bill of fair around here and bitch-slapping has been known to happen around here from time to time. Personally, I try to save my collegiate level questions/answers for this board as not to get flamed.

Thanks for the advice....... Both kinds of advice  ;)

I knew i might be asking for trouble posting here, but i had to give it a shot! In my LIMITED experience in here, asking a question in here is like panning for gold. You have to sift through the pile of S**T you've picked up (ie newbie flamers) to find the payoff. I'll ignore the flames for what they are, as i know there are people who actually want to help.

Here is a helpful link that shows a schematic of how to build a headlight wiring harness. I have done this in all of my vehicles that I add the "E Code" headlights to.

I believe you are correct sir. If you'll look back, I specifically stated that I didn't think YJ's suffer from this problem normally. Other than that, I'm a round-headlight man, those square ones just fawk me all up. :flipoff2:

See, we got some actual tech out of a thread that was starting to stink like low tide

Just become a Jedi so you can use the force and drive with your eyes closed then you won't have to worry about the pretty bright lights anymore:flipoff2:

I have to admit I'm getting really tired of these threads, guy asks a question and has to wade thru several discussions of his newbie status before he gets a response, what a waste of space.

First do you have a meter? what you want to do is check voltage at the battery and then at the headlight hot tab to determine if you are losing power, if the lights are getting full voltage a relay kit won't help, if this is the case check the obvious things, are the contacts dirty/corroded, do you have a good ground, is your chassis ground in good shape?

whatever....
ok so if voltage IS the same what then?
wha tdo those $$ IPF kits do (we know they work), so i can make my own?

Kid, the IPF/Hella kits are different animals all together. What they do is replace the headlight housings with a non-sealed unit that you can use the H4 style high output bulbs with. So essentially you are replacing everything from the headlight wire/plug out to the light/housing itself.

I do recommend them, run them on my junk, and made a WORLD of difference.
