Im starting a new thread for the weekend of Nov 3rd and 4th. So any that want to do this, check in here.
Lets set up a run up Doran Nov 3rd. Then after that we can come back down and people can play on Gatekeeper. I would like to save gatekeeper for the end of the day after trail running since you never know if the obstacle decides to swallow up a rig and it may take HOURS to extract.
Doran requires at least one locker in the rear and at least 32 inch tires. Anything bigger and it shouldn't be a problem. Rock rash is expected so if you don't want scratches or dents, I wouldn't do it.
Then on Sunday we can see what others want to do. I want to explore a canyon on the East side of the calico range. I've only seen it from the air while im up flying. I will try and do a recon from the air this next week. I just have to bribe some pilots:laughing:
There is another trail we can do, not as difficult but has some decent areas to play. the exit is pretty fun.
If we get through Doran quick, the more time you have to play on gatekeeper.
Is there anyone else who can guide a group to the other easier runs would be great.
This is NOT an organized event! So bring your own food, water, beer, overnight stays is on your own. Wheelin is at your own risk.
I can give you some numbers to hotels and help in that area if needed. THere is a Autozone, kragen, napa, and some other shops.
We can have Peggy Sue's diner the meeting spot. Its right off of I-15 just north of Barstow. Its the same exit you take to go to Calico Ghost Town. Times are yet to be determined. Probably around 8am.

I'm half tempted to join you guys....I was at Calico last weekend for my first ever off road run (I used to road race). We went up Odessa and back down Duran. I had a freakin' blast! I'd love to try it the other direction. I'll take the bypass around Gatekeeper though. If I made it up Odessa...will I have any problems making it up Duran?
As for Gatekeeper...some dude in a cherokee got hung up and busted both axles trying to make it through saturday afternoon...and a grumpy old man in a badass Jeep had him on the line pulling him out. It was fun to watch. The old man made it through on 40s.

I would love to go if someone will lead on some less agressive trails. I just got new axles and have no lockers. But I do have 1 ton axles with posi front and rear for now. Are there any trails I could take a fullsize and not bang it up. I would also be bringing the wife and kids. No one in my family has been wheelin there.

I've done calico many times in my blazer without any body damage except when I got stupid on gate keeper. With good driving and spotting you will be fine, the only part I remember getting a little tight with tall trucks was in the squeeze part, but we got a few tall and tippy trucks through there without any damage.

channel 4 on the cb.
I will see if I can round up someone to lead up Odessa. that one is less hardcore and is doable in fullsizes.
Gate Keeper will be left for after the days run. Like I said before: I don't want to spend the entire day on one vehicle if that happens. Lets just do doran then come back on gatekeeper.

8 am Sat morning at Peggy Sue's diner off of I-15. Its the same exit you take to go to calico ghost town coming from Barstow. We will leave, no later then 8:30 AM. Bring all your own food and drinks. Dress Warm. Bring one extra pair of cloths. One gallon of drinking water is Highly advised. Make sure your rig is in good condition. one locker required for Doran. One locker advised for Odessa or traction aiding device. Bring a tow strap!! A small lift and 31's also advised.
You are out here at YOUR OWN RISK! I will not leave anyone behind(and thier rig) but don't expect me to stop the day outing just to get you into barstow.
If that happens, hop in with someone else and we will come back and get you to barstow somehow.
Other then that, bring a good attitude and lets have a fun day. Please help others if needed.
PM me for any questions or post here

Odessa is pretty narrow even for a half ton short wheel base rig(110-125"). And there is a tight squeeze in one area I would'nt want you taking out your upper door frame and b piller if you slip off the rock. There is another trail that is for your size. But I can save that one for Sunday for ya? You can always hop in with me and go up Doran. I just don't want to take a chance with a nice tow rig man.
I am willing to lead a trail for you fullsize 130"plus wheelbase on Sunday ok! I might even bring my dodge tow rig out on the trail and lead it!!

the one area Im talking about is you have 50foot cliffs on both sides of your rig. People tend to slip off the rock and slide into the drivers side. I run full width 3/4 ton axles so i take up the entire width. Another section is the exit. Its VERY narrow and by the time you get the front around the drivers side rear tire wants to fall off a 6 foot verticle drop and it puckers you up a bit. Your rig can get through it no problem. It all depends on you. I wouldn't reccomend it. But I don't have anyone to guide up odessa yet. the plan is doran which is more extreme. Acturally you might be better up doran. Its not to tight, but it can get technicall.

My jeep is out. rear u-joint again and IM too tired to fix it. No one showed today but there was a gang of XJ out that I hooked up with. It was a day. went up odessa, down doran then went around to gatekeeper. I got some brand new body work done by gatekeeper and my U-joint is about to blow. I made it home, put my junk in the garage, took a shower and now drinking a beer. If anyone wants to go, these guys are shacked up at the bunk house right off calico road. just take the exit for calico, take the road towards the mountains, you will see the "bunk House" on the left just after the main entrance to calico ghost town park. Look for some xj's parked out front. I don't really know there agenda tomorrow.
