since my 85 will be my dd for a while, I decided to run 33's instead of 35's(those will be going on when I retire my rig to off road only) For the front I was wondering How bad my shackle angle would be if I ran this front hanger http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-Straight-Axle-Swap-Crossmember-2-Drop_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42609QQihZ003QQite mZ130143860097 with the stock front springs to clear the 33''s? I plan on welding it in the 1" foward position(since it will eventually get rears up front). Would boomerang shackles fix this?
Or should I just put the rears up front now and chevies in the back and have more lift than I need?

I guess thats just too much work for a little lift for most people. You can just build yourself a nice leaf pack to give yourself a little lift. Or you could go with the drop hanger and move your shackle mounts on the frame if they do end up being at a bad angle. Most people arent willing to give a response because a lot of stuff is just trial and error, or logical thinking, or its been covered before.

Edit: or go no lift and cross your fingers or trim a little.

Assuming that you have stock steering I wouldn't move the axle forward at all due to the non adjustable draglink. It's worth the effort to get a good crossover steering setup, and run lifted springs--the 33's should be good with ~ a 3" lift.... Just my 2cents.

man I don't really think I can do anything on the cheap. whatever I decide to do, I have to buy a lift 1. crossover steering 2. ifs steering pump and bracket 3. I thought solid axles where cheap to lift.:)

Would you consider just doing a body lift for the time being? A new one is cheap and will get you by. Heck, I have one for a second gen truck that I could sell you cheap if you didn't mind giving me the time to get it out of the truck.

They are very cheap to lift....

You just have to be creative if your on a $0.00 budget. Read the FAQ in the Truck and 4Runner section, and get some ideas. Lift shackles in the front (if kept to a decent lenght) will work great--then replace your rear springs with some out of a 79-83 truck as they have a little more of an arch.... Also try some 33X10.50's they are narrower than the typical 12.5's and don't rub nearly as much. Hope this helps just keep and open mind :smokin:

yeah body lifts are gay. I will cut the fenders any day over a body lift. Rot box, your ideas sound the best, but don't I need crossover steering with all those previous suggestions? my truck pulls weird on hard braking already.

The torque arm that goes from the frame to the front axle is nice to have when braking, and without it these trucks will pull to one side. That being said I threw mine away because it limits flex......

You can get by with your stock steering just keep your axle close to the stock location (moving it down is usually OK, but forward is bad). Also it's a good idea to sleeve the tie rod. It's an easy upgrade, and well worth the time--the stock one is sooo flimsy. This is in no way better or even close to being as good as high steer, but with less than a 3" lift high steer is a pain to do anyway. Also power steering is a really easy upgrade (if you don't already have it)doner trucks are everywhere--I would do that ASAP.

I don't see why I cant just shorten the torque rod and lift it ,if I get a 1" drop and 1" foward spring hanger?
