: Full Floater Ideas

How does the Warn Full Floater bolt on the axle? (An AMC20 to be axact)

does it just bolt to thata 4 bolt flange?

I'm asking because I had this nutty idea on how to make my OWN full floater for under $400, while having identical Rotors/calipers all the way around.

Yup, the warn spindle just bolts on to the axle housing flange, but you drill a 5th hole at the bottom. BTW dont use jeep external bolt hubs on the back. HTH

Well.. I'm running a trussed Waggie AMC20. I'm not worried about bending the housing or pulling tubes. IF that happens, I hope to god I'm not in the jeep when it does. ;)

My concerns were the strength of that flange, and having all of the weight of the vehicle basically relying on that flange to hold. (I'm not talking the tube so much as the flange)

My plan was to build an adapter plate to go from the flange to a 6 bolt spindle pattern. Then take all the hardware from the front of a Waggie D44 from the knuckles out and slap it on. I would be running internal hubs that way, have common brake/rotor parts on all 4 corners.

Running a custom axle is a forgon conclusion

Drawback... I would be running a 19 spline outer on teh axle shaft. hmm... can't say I care for that too much. But only running 36" tires maybe it isn't a problem if I find some chrom-moly shafts?

Anyone have any ideas for running a 30 spline outer?

the M20 is a 29 spline axle, so running anything over 30 spline is stupid. I would rather engineer in a week spot on the axle toward the outside. (weak meaning 1-5% weaker than the rest) so if I snap an axle odds are its easier to pull.

Should be fine. There are many warn ff on rigs and I haven't heard of any bending/breaking the flange (make sure you use the 5th bolt!).

19 spline should be fine. It is pretty close to the diameter of the 29 spline at the diff. Dutchman should be able to make you custom shafts out of warn chrome-moly blanks. If you want to go 30 spline, then bore out the spindle (if necessary) and get warn 30 spline hublocks.

Sounds like you have a solid plan.

Portland, OR...... hey do you work for warn? LOL

anyone got pics of the 5th bolt hole and what warn does to get the spindle on? Maybe.. I'll just email warn for the instructions on how to install their CJ warn FF kit.

WARN sells 30 spline hublocks and drive flanges you could use. Or you could have some slugs out of a full time D44 front broached or EDM'd to 30 spline.

That's the cheap "get home" trick for a broken semi-float axle shaft, y'know.

Especially for those that carry a spare spindle, hub, rotor with their spare tire.. just make an adapter to bolt it to the semi-float flange and you're limping home..

soo... what are you saying... you think its a bad idea for a permanent use? or just making a comment about a get home fix when running semi-float axles?

Do the 30 spline hublocks work on a Internal D44 rotor assembly?

Guess its time to go wandering through a catalog.

ever seen teh hubs on a read full floater before? they're 30 spline, look identical to teh 19's on your front end now, just broached different inside ;)

and on a side note, my toy rear FF uses teh toy axle 4 bolt flange and the 10 bolt toy spindle in that same config your talking about, the only thing i see possibly being an issue is it will make the rear axle wider than the front ;)

Saying it's a good get-home fix.

Also add that it's been done before on a permanent, full-float kind of basis, too.

I couldn't find any articles about it for you, though.. Just remember reading about it years ago.. back before Warn offered a kit. :)

Well.. thats not a problem. I need to space the tires out anyway since they rub on the frame in the back and really bad on the leaf springs when turning at almost full lock. (turning radius already sucks... I'm not giving up anymore by adjusting bump-stops)

Figure the adapter at 1/2" thick? then the caliper bracket probably adds another 1/4", maybe a little less.

I just figured... how hard could it possibly be to build my own adapter plate?
