i spent 2006 planning a big build up as i was overseas and did plenty of web wheeling!! ;)
SO
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:28 PM i started my build by ordering some parts which i will show later but i have been trying to do some small things to get it all moving
i got a 2nd set of doors which had wind up windows in them.
i removed the winding mechanism out of the second set of doors and replaced the electric mechanism with the winding ones as i wanted to remove the wires so i can easily swap the doors over!!
i spent the time marking up, cutting and grinding the 2nd set of doors so i can plate them up for my half doors.
set of doors

removing the shiat i dont need!!

Evan...
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:31 PM will be running these!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/airshocks.jpg
18" rears and 16" fronts!!
after playing with the doors
i went to get to regoed but failed due to exhaust flange gasket leaking and no mud flaps and a few other things....i fixed the problems up and got it regoed on a Friday....the next day i stripped the inside out....
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/stripped.jpg
After I got all the inside stripped it was time to go and pick up my transfer. once I got it home I pulled it off the gear box (got the transfer with gearbox and bell housing)
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/lt230.jpg
I then proceded to pull out my gearbox and transfer case....
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/gboxtransfer-1.jpg
If you haven't noticed I don't have any place to work and all the work was done in the street out the front of my house....
After the gearbox and transfer were out I enquired about reduction gears so out came the intermediate gear from the transfer....
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/xfergears.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/imediategear-1.jpg
Then came the exhaust...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/exhaust.jpg
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:32 PM Once that was under some kind of control I took the engine out...good thing for me was I pulled it out on a Saturday and sold it on the Sunday so no storage of the damn thing, as you can see only street no garage
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/engine-1.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/engine3.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/enginegoone.jpg
Yes I am a boof head!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/workin.jpg
Evan....
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:33 PM i then got rid of the fuel tank and othe things not needed...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/fueltank.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/snorkle.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/bullbar.jpg
this is how she stood once cleaned out...funny a 2' body lift and 2' suspension lift didnt look that big before....
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/rig.jpg
it ventured down to overkill engineering in sydney where it will be built as i dont have the facilities and the skill yet...
Evan...
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:35 PM the body has been chopped, engine is sitting in there and i have got some more goodies for it.
the half doors have become one of those jobs that i do when i can be bothered but should have them done soon.
i have decided to change from steel control arms to air craft grade solid aluminum, which are stronger. The lower control arms are going to be the same length so i only need to carry one set of spares ;)
so some pictures.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/lockers.jpg
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:39 PM ok i picked the body up!! they have removed the engine....removed everything so they can clean up the chassis so cutting off all the old coil hats and shock mounts, and rear body mounts,
so i have the cab which ill be closing the rear section!! ill be chopping the rear doors so the fit on the back then weld them in!!! then priming and then everything goes back in and tube work starts!! BOA the never ending cycle!!
this is the lovely power plant all wired up ready to plug in!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/enginewired.jpg
and the chassis being stripped down!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/chassis.jpg
i spent every night for a week workin on the body to close the body chop. i was goin to box up some RHS and put a sheet in then cut the rear window...but my old man and i brainstormed and came up with the idea of 'reshaping' the rear doors to fit the back....so after 22+long hours it was done!!
now getting cleaned up and primed!! a pic 4 ya all
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/chop1-1.jpg
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:40 PM i picked the cab up from the panel beaters as they performed some magic and made it look like a real car!! i spent all of this arvo putting the dash back in as its going back to re-unite with the chassis!!! so here are some transformation pics!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/2007_10070051.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/beadlocks.jpg
im hoping it will be back on road late November. then will come lots of seat time!!
here is the proposed rear ideas!! it will be tube frame with most likely a small box build in for tools and recovery stuff.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/backhalf004.jpg
i also had the name "Energized Racing" registered as a business so i could signwrite and not get in shit for copywrite!! so here is the design to be printed!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/EnergizedRacingLogo.jpg
picked up some interior decorating items!!!
so i got a fixed bucket seat for ME the driver!!
a reclining bucket seat for the passenger
2x 5 point harnessess
2x window nets!!
so that should be good once they go in!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g252/evanstaniland/seats.jpg
Evan...
BigEv 10-27-2007, 10:46 PM so that is where i am up to at the moment.
as most will be wondering the specs are as the following:
Toyota 1UZ-FE quad cam alloy V8 with standard 4 speed auto box
mounted to a landrover LT230 transfer with 50% REDUCTION gears.
80 series Land cruiser diffs with 3 link+ panhard front and rear
hope its somthing different for you all....
Evan...
duncanstives 10-27-2007, 10:51 PM Nice build dude... Looking forward to seeing the wheeling pics.
Pooze 10-27-2007, 11:12 PM Very nice
dog walker 10-28-2007, 09:41 AM I dig what you're doing here! I added this to the "build up" page.
RustyNailJustin 10-28-2007, 09:57 AM Very cool truck. Are there distributors for stuff like your Sway a Ways and Iroks, or do you have to get them shipped from from retailers here in the USA?
Where in NSW are you?
Nomad 10-28-2007, 09:06 PM Evan, cool build! I like what you did with the cab. I'm building up a turbo/intercooled BJ70 and doing something similar, haven't chopped the cab yet, can't decide if i'm just gonna stretch it, or chop it like yours. I'm running chevy 63's in the rear with a 100" wheelbase where i spliced in the rear of a BJ60 frame.
Post up some more, curious to see the progression.
Cheers!
roscoFJ73 10-28-2007, 10:43 PM Great thread Evan, keep up the momentum :smokin:
trkklr77 10-28-2007, 10:54 PM wtf is with the spring on the steering stablizer?
dit it always what to turn to the right?
was it really hard to the left?
at least its gone anyways.
looks kick ass! btw. i like the rear doors rehash.
redzook 10-28-2007, 11:45 PM yeh makes right hand turns a breeze
you can set it up to make left hand turn easy to
you just have to look at the tracks first and see which way you need to turn the most ;) :p
:flipoff2: it is a return to center steering stabilizer
you cant notice it on there while turning but it stops a bit of the shimmy (hides bad steering/caster) and also returns to the center a bit better once in motion
quite common here in Aus
BigEv 10-29-2007, 02:17 AM Very cool truck. Are there distributors for stuff like your Sway a Ways and Iroks, or do you have to get them shipped from from retailers here in the USA?
Where in NSW are you?
yea there are a few distributors around Aus that deal the air shocks and tires so its not tooo hard to get some goodies :smokin:

yea it sounds like another good build!! it took me a while to choose the engine ,g/box and transfer setup but im happy with the way im going.
i did the body chop so i can set the rear up so i can get maximum movement so that it would work to the best it can...so chop chop to move the 42s around!! and i have stretched the wheel base to around 107" to make it a tad more stable!!
hopefully some more pics soon!!
thanks for the feedback ppl!!
EVAN
Wow, very nice and interesting build indeed! I don't think I would chop my cab but it looks great! I'll be followin the progress

Izeloz 12-24-2008, 12:24 AM Awesome build. I like it a lot. I am looking to do something similar with my hilux. Got any closer shots of how the rear wheel covers attach to the axle? I want to keep mine street legal as well and tire coverage is an unfortunate requirement. I like how they came out.
