I finally got my dual transmission project built, installed and on the road.I drove it for the first time Thursday night.I will try to take some pics and get them on here.Im not very good with computers. What I did is put an IH T34 5 speed behind the bell housing and then A BW T18 right behind that, and A 6.5 inch long drive shaft between that and the NP 202 Transfer case.Had to do A lot of fabricating, moving stuff, etc to get everything in there. The 4 speed shifter is right in front of the bench seat.I simply shortened it and bent it away from the 5 speed shifter,no interference. This project has been A long time in the works and I let out at least A couple woo hoos when I finally got to drive it.It goes from 428 to 1, all the way to overdrive(the 5 speed is overdrive in 5th).Most of the time I will drive it with the 4 spd in 4th and forget about it and just drive the front box, except for reverse. The ratios are62 to 1(stock),103,114,193,207,386,and428.428 is achieved by putting both gear boxes in reverse, and thats just for show as you dont want to run the 2nd box backwards under load(the gears are only designed to push one way). Now,I wont be bouncing my way through the Rubicon next year.Ed.

Got pics yet? This sounds a lot like Spider's dual SM 465's. What did you use for the coupler/spud shaft?

I made the power connection by shortening the 5 speed mainshaft and making inside splines, then shortening the 4 speed input shaft and making outside splines. The adapter plates put about 2 1/8 inches between the cases.

Interesting project, do you have any pics of your dual setup Mountainguy?
I thought about using dual SM-420's at one point so that I could run low pinion Dana 60's flipped over as high pinion. The second trans would be run in reverse. I never got around to actually doing it though, and I'm not sure the reverse gear could take the rpm's and torque being channeled through it.

It will be some time before I can get pictures on here.Im not set up to do it and will have to get someone to help me.Also, ive been advised by the local 4x4 shop and others not to use reverse. For example,my lowest combination would be reverse, reverse and low range. The rig would be going foward at 428-1.But this would be using the weakest gears in the transmissions. Also, not to run the front box in reverse because the 2nd box would then be rotating backwards.Im going to take this advice for now.
