Well, the political buzz word for this year is National Security.

So, some paranoid pencil head has decided that the Grand Lake dam is at risk of someone driving a CJ5 loaded with firecrackers below the dam and blowing off some of their paint……. Therefore the following notice has been posted (from the chamber of commerce for GRDA):

"At this time they(GRDA) ask that no activity take place north of the electric line right-of-ways in these areas. You are still permitted in areas south of the right-of-ways. Your help in complying to this request and getting the word out to others will help us as we continue to work with GRDA on the continuation of all 4-wheel activity."

This has little or no effect on the areas below Dam 1 (Rock Garden) and Dam 3 (L'Blue). However, this does eliminate access to all areas beyond the slew above Waterfall (Dam 2). This means that all of Playground is off limits!

I plan to be out there this weekend and I'll check on enforcement and attitude. Plans are in works to petition for a change of this policy. But, until further notice, this area is now off limits. :(

Would it be possible for someone with a map of the place to mark off the restricted area's? I have only been there once but plan to return. I didn't see any signs with names and don't want to go to the wrong area's. Thanks!

You think That is stupid. Oregon Health Department has created a new position for ALL its offices State wide. Every county health department will now a specialist whos main job is to deal with bio terrorisam. So even the countys out in BFE now will be spending your tax dollars and mine to hire train and pay a 40 to 50k salary for a special health sanitarian. Maybe they can classify all the tree huggers as Bio Terroists. Than might gives these guys something to do. :usa:

Next we will see notices that we all need to be in our houses after dark for reasons of national security.

Check the web site at my sig. Under Disney or Langley there is an aerial map of the area. On the middle spillway you can see the clearing thru the woods on both sides where the power line crosses.

I'm hoping this is a temporary thing. An invisable line in the sand (or rocks) is just lip service. It's possibe (we will be suggesting) they place metal/concrete barrier poles at the foot of the dam. This would serve to protect it and would let us still have 99% of the area back (depending on where the poles are placed).

As any sane person knows, putting up a sign that says it is unlawfull to pass this point, only works for those who follow the law. A terrorist won't give a 'dam' about that stupid sign..

The presence of ProRocks has proven a great asset to us in Disney. They showed the HUGE number of people that area can draw! The local business and officials were very happy (exlcuding the one jerk Lake Patrolman  ) with things. This gives us good influnce in the happenings down there. :)

DAMNIT!!! There was a ledge up there that ate my lunch last time I was there. I'm building now to beat that bastard!!!

Mark, let me know if there is anything that I can help with. It doesn't take long to get there and I'll do whatever I need to to help out with this.

Thanks

It sucks that the place is closed. I have never wheeled there but hoped to someday. However, I am willing to comply with just about any request to increase national security until the threat of terrorism is as close to gone as humanly possible. That goes for Disney, Tellico, or anywhere else within reason where I wheel.

HEY HEY, don't panic guys! The places is not closed, we've just been asked to stay off of one small area!

We were out there this weekend. Lots of wheelin going on just like normal.

The only complaints I heard this weekend were about the road block/traffic harassment on state highway going thru town. The state is broke, so they've found a new place to bleed some money. So, if you don't have a street legal rig (have insurance IN the vehicle) you need to stay off the main highway thu town! You can travel up the river between areas.

Just to make you feel better, here's a few pics I took this weekend.
