Anyone tried boring there spindles on there dana 44 out in order to run 30 spline outers. Warn references a part # for an internal spline locking hub , (the one they use in there full floating axle such as a scout). It appears that there is enough meat in order to do it just wondering if anyone had tried thanks chris

Boring out the inside of a spindle sounds like the formula for a disaster. The entire weight of your rig rides on those spindles. Then add the forces of bumps, potholes, and rocks, and that gets scary. Looking at a stock spindle, its amazing that they hold up as good as they do.

Does it even need to be bored? If so, is there any way to use D60 spindles maybe with larger ID bearings?

you'll bust that 297 joint first, and that is going to take out bolth the inner and outer axles, and a 60 joint won't fit in the nuckle
i'll just call it a hint.. but from personal knowledge 30sp outer's will fit with [NO machine work what so ever!, the 19sp and the 30sp are the same diameter at the spline surface 1.32 or whatever it is, they're the same, 30sp will fit perfect!, and the hubs you need are rear full floater's to a CJ or whatever, they're identical in every way to teh hub for the 19sp except broached for 30sp...
and Orton's right... teh 297x or 760x will give before a 19sp outer ever will (unless u're frosty)

OK I have worked on a few dana 44's but not enough to know what has 19 spline and what has 30??? also I have worked on 19 spline before (I think it was 19, a scout front 44) and it definatly was not 1.3" diameter at the splines, it was noticably smaller then my toyota stub axle.
Oh yeah to all you guys saying he will blow a U-joint before a stub shaft didnt think about CTM's super U-joint that will hold strong after you frag an axle shaft.

no dana 44 ever came with 30 spline outers just 19 or 27 the 30's will have to be custom made , and I am running a set od billet cro moly ujoints that a friend of mine made
