: Trac-lock use???

I almost threw away my trac-loc when I got my front D 60 detroit. Now that I am thinking of making my rear D60 a 35 spline, my question is... Can I weld my tracloc's gears? I know it is a clutch type unit, but is it possible (and inexpensive) to make this completely locked?
Or, is my cheap option a spool??
Thanks, Ricky...seeya...

Anyone??
I gave it a closer look, and it seems to me, that if I did weld the gears the main weakness would be the center cross shaft. I have never had a welded carrier and would guess it will handle the same as a spool. Right??
If this will work, is it strong enough for running 39.5 boggers? I just replaced the Hawgs and need some beef in my 60..
Thanks, Ricky...seeya...

Some people do it and are fine. I would get a spool for piece of mind unless I was totally strapped for cash. The track loc carriers are not as strong as the open cariers

yea i had a welded trac-loc in the ram and it held up to 38s under a ramcharger. it was in the chrysler rear a 9.something or another... at any rate i run a rear spool theyre cheap and realiable...
im mean really the tig welded trac loc held up fine and all but its a pain to weld and you have to get all the slag and crap off or it'll eat up your bearings..
