When going forward in your vehicle you are using the coast side of the gears in your frontend (the drive side in the rear end).

So shouldn't you set up the front R&P tooth contact pattern using the coast side of the gears?

Anyone have an opinion on this far flung and totally useless subject...that is unless your setting up your frontend right now <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> )

When I set up mine I did the front and rear the same. Drive side AND coast side. I followed the directions that came with the gears and made sure the pattern on both sides were perfect. The pictures in the instructions that came with my gears showed the correct pattern centered on the tooth on both sides. Thats how I did it. I did figure out that the tips in the instructions are practically worthless. My pattern was off and changing the pinion shims thinner was what the instructions said to do according to the pattern. I ended up adding to get the right pattern after subtracting down to practically nothing. If you get stumped go in the other direction.
Good luck,
Aaron

Tankota......When I do the fronts I generally set the drive side and spot check the coast. Turns out when drive is perfect so is the coast. There's more info on some of my set-ups on my homepage under PROJECTS and some set-up info under TECHNICAL.
