I was getting ready to place an order with 4wheelparts.com for 5 rock crawler wheels.
15x8, 5x5.5 bolt pattern.

The problem is they only have 3.75 backspaced wheels in stock and I’ll have to place a custom order for them.

Is 2.5 the way to go for the back spacing? I saw on Petroworks website, they prefer a 2.75 BS

I have a 1988 Samurai with a Petroworks SOA kit using stock springs. I plan to run a 31” tire.

Thanks,
Mike

I have a 2.5 back space and it works well especially when it comes to keeping the brake lines away from the tires. A lot of the high steer systems require a 2.5 back space.

So does anyone have a picture of a smaurai ..stock axles and the 2" backspaced wheel? About how far do those 2" stick out?

I want a little bit wider stance (I refuse to use wheel spacers) then again I don't want to go too far out and have it hard on bearings either.

I have 2" BS Willamette Daytona wheels. I remember when 2" BS was the norm.

They stick out nice-nice, but in NY, only commerical trucks require mid flaps or have tire protrudence requirements. Otherwise, t-buckets and dune buggies would be aloud on the roads.

Now where did I put my pics?

The part number you'd want to order (for the black round-hole wheel) is PCW97-5885R2.5
This would get you a 15x8 with 5x5.5" lug pattern and the 2.5" backspacing.
If you wanted the "Daytona" style wheels with the D-shaped holes, you would order the PCW51-5885R2.5

Is 2.5 the way to go for the back spacing? I saw on Petroworks website, they prefer a 2.75 BS

ProComp (as well as American Racing, Cragar, etc.) weld the faces to the rims in a couple of standard backspacings. The regular backspacing for the 15x8 is 3.75". If they're creating the "offset" wheel then they reverse the rim and weld the face to it with a 2.5" backspacing. Of course, there is a range of offsets that can be created, but as far as what's pre-made and readily available, the 3.75" and 2.5" should be in stock and ready to ship from 4 Wheel Parts. I worked there for 4.5 years and I would be really, really surprised if they didn't have the wheels you need in most (if not all) of their 6 warehouses across the country. If they do have a backorder on the wheels, that will be a fault of ProComp Wheel rather than 4WP because there is an order point to keep those standard, high-volume part numbers in stock at all times.

The different backspacing the PetroWorks wheels offer doesn't make a big difference; your wheels/tires will stick out 1/4-inch less on each side than with the more standard 2.5" backspacing that ProComp, American Racing, etc offer. If Petroworks has them in stock, then by all means support the dedicated Suzuki aftermarket and order directly from them.

I bought mine from SpiderTrax. Better customer service, less additude than Petroworks. IMHO

vs. aluminum wheels which would've cracked with similar abuse?

Thank you everyone for the information.
I saw wheelers site before and they have the best pricing on the Rock Crawler/Pro-comp wheels. I called them up and shipping would be an additional $70 and that kills the pricing for me.

Spidertrax has them too, but again shipping kills the deal for me.

I don’t particularly like the Petroworks “star” style black wheel. Gary is a good guy and I try to support him, but in this case I prefer a different style wheel.

does 4wheel parts show those wheels on their website? I only saw 3.75 backspacing. Should I just call in?

I hate my ProComp rockcrawler wheels. I've bent 3 so far, and I'm not meaning the bead area. The tires wobble so I'm going to go with some alluminum wheels and hopefully have better luck.

The ones we need for the Sammy are not listed on the website, just call them up.
RockMolester listed the part numbers already too.
PCW51-5885R2.5 for the 51 series (D-windows)
PCW51-5885R2.5 for the 97 series (Round Holes)

These are for the 15X8 size, 5X5.5 bolt pattern and 2.5 backspacing.
