: ProComp and Rancho THE SAME COMPANY
MAD MAC 06-21-2002, 04:57 PM PROCOMP AND RANCHO SHOCKS
Just to Inform alot of people that procomp and rancho are made by the same company and they are made on the same line and the same machine so how can they differ in performance the pro comps do have a different valving piston in them that could be the differance. Tenneco Automotive is the manufacter of rancho and procomp Tenneco also makes all of Monroe shocks and struts they also are the supplier for Ford motor company. Tenneco also is the old monroe shock company really, the reason I know this is Monroe Michigan (Monroe) shocks is the headquarters for Tenneco automotive corp. witch is only about 15 miles from where I live and I know several people that work for them. Just so you know where I get my info and no bullshit. So if your going to get procomps shocks your buying ranchos basicly It does kind of make sense when you look at there part #s 9012 and 90012 so you decide on the shocks I like them both for what they are granted they are no bilstein or sway-away but they do the job.

Yup.....
Pro Comp ES3000's = Rancho RS5000's
But shhhhh.... some people still think Pro Comp Shocks are "junk" while they rave about Rancho's :p ;)

DRM iI kinda thought the same thing about that :)
Sloan 06-21-2002, 09:55 PM I remember a couple of years ago at 4WPW buying new shocks and the guy told me about this set up. Then he laughed and asked which stickers I wanted put on my shocks since they are exactly the same thing. BTW, I don't remember now but at that time there 3 shocks being made by that company.;)
4x4junkie 06-22-2002, 06:28 PM Interesting.
I was thinking of trying out those Procomp MX6 shocks after being thoroughly disgusted with Rancho's RS9000 and its crappy valving. But now I'm not so sure. These plain monotube gas KYBs I have now seem to be working ok, even if a bit soft. I guess I'll just keep 'em.
Weasel 06-22-2002, 07:10 PM I think the Mono tube pro comp is diffrent then the rancho one. They have the adjusture in diffrent places and diffrent valving. The pro comp adjust on both rebound and compression but the rancho just adjust one, not sure which. Or that is what someone was saying, I could be wrong.
tail_lite 06-22-2002, 09:44 PM Is Pro-comp's mono tube shock pretty much the same as Eldebrocks' IAS ???????
GRMhick 06-23-2002, 12:12 AM I also read that the pro comp shocks have a 1/2" bore, while the ranchos have 9/16. is that right?
I dunno about my RS 9000's, but they work fine for bumpy roads, but thats about all i really see that they help me with.. i woudl have put on doetch tech (sp.?) prerunners, but the rs9000's were on the truck when i bought it.. and it works.
MAD MAC 06-24-2002, 08:04 AM I think Procomp and rancho shocks all have the same diameter rods but they may differ when It comes to the seires of shocks, all I know is that rancho and procomp are made by the same company and not much if any differs from either brand.
HighHooder 06-24-2002, 08:20 AM same line, same machine, different housings, ends and valves, yup, same shock:rolleyes:
ROKTOY 06-24-2002, 12:16 PM Compare their leaf spring listings. Many same to within 1/100 of an inch.......

Umm no, made by the same place, diffrent shocks. If they have diffrent valving from Rancho to Pro Comp, then I wouldn't call them the same shock really.
GOAT1 06-24-2002, 06:09 PM Yeah, this is old news.
My thoughts on shocks:
A monotube shock is a totally different animal than a twin tube, and in most cases, a much better performing shock.
The new procomp adjustable monotube looks like it should be a very good shock, if I were buying shocks, I would buy these.
Edelbrock shocks are a good Idea and work good but I dont know how long the internal inertia valve lasts, I have seen many edelbrock shocks stop working properly after a year or so.
Bilstein: has always been a good quality shock, they usually ride very well as long as they are matched to the vehicle.
What happened to the SAW big bore?
robert stone 06-24-2002, 06:20 PM well that explains why i never cared for rancho's or pro crap

Uh, you should know, shouldn't you? :flipoff2:
(I'm wondering too- where is it?)
Geesh 06-25-2002, 03:26 PM Friend of mine developed that new ProComp Monotube before leaving Tenneco-Automotive. Performance supposedly excellent, but lifespan similar to most disposable COTS shocks these days ~ Short; performance wains before paint shows it

Damn......
The brains behind the Big Bore = GOAT1, so when am I gonna see some GOAT Shocks?
MAD MAC 06-25-2002, 09:39 PM Well fellas my point of this thread is for the fools that never anserwed the thread anyways you know the guys who say " Procomps suck ranchos are way better" when they are very much the same maybe not the exact same but almost. Thats what I wanted to see but FLAME on FLAME on you ain't going to hurt my feelings.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Travis Waldher 06-26-2002, 07:55 AM the 9000 series were different. But I coulda swore:
ES3000 = RS5000 = Monroe Gas Shock
I thought the valving was even all the same on that particular line.
NOODLES 06-26-2002, 12:30 PM have gabriel gas charged on the back of my truck. They are made by the same company and are long travel. Difference is my cost is $19 dollars per shock. 1 shock to unbalanced bias ply 36-1250 swamper and they work great. Never spending hard earned money on pile of crap overrated shocks again. do you really need a rs 9000. Or do you just want newbies to think you are cool.:flipoff2:
