What info do you have on them? I have been thinking about them also.

i only know of a couple rigs in the longview area running them with good success, Shannon has them in his truck and seems to be sticking with them, but he has also broken a couple axles. there is a set in the Portland Craig's list for 1000 bucks, if its just a trail rig i think there worth it, but the cost of disk brake kits to make them street legal isn't worth it in my opinion, just get some Dana 60s. pinion brakes work awesome there just not street legal. and you can fab them up really easy, there also easy to work on. Detroit makes lockers for them, or just weld them up, gearing is limited to only 6.71 if I'm not mistaken, but the one thing i will admit is nothing looks cooler than Rockwell's under a rig, thanks Kevin TDCAuto

I would have to say the only thing that looks cooler under rigs would be portals:smokin:

shannon breaks axles cuz hes running a monster of a big block with 63inch combine tires. he got the new s10 built and took it down his drivway 6times and snapped a axle so he put his old rear axle with upgrade shafts in until he gets around to ordering the 5 ton conversion

What kind of information are you guys looking for? I ran Rockwell’s (2 ˝ ton) on two separate buggies for about 5 years or so. I just sold the last Rockwell’d buggy so I could get a comp buggy for the W.E.ROCK season.

I had a RamJet 350 crate motor pushing 300hp and 350 torque on 42’s and I never had a problem. My new comp buggy runs custom Volvo c303 axles with 300m shafts and billet gears/ cv’s and I destroyed an entire gear set, short axle, and cv axle at my first W.E.ROCK competition last month, and it only runs 310 hp and 40’s…

Rock’s are definitely strong, but incredibly heavy, and you sit really tall so you can clear the top loading pumpkins. There is another guy in our local club running a set of fronts on his buggy and he has never had any problems with his either. He runs 44" Boggers. We both went to the Rockwell's when we kept breaking Dana 60 axles.

Here is a link to my photobucket accoount that has pages of pictures for one of the buggies. I was selling it at the time so I took more pictures then you would every want. :D

So is this just a thread for bragging about having rocks? You aren't asking for any real info.

Friend of mine runs them and with 42s and unshaved diffs his clearance isn't much different then mine is with 60/14 and 38s. Hes happy with them in his flatty for what its worth.

When I originally started the thread 11-12-07 i was looking for info for my build. Now im done with the build and someone dug up the thread so i thought it would be a perfect time to post a pic of the almost finished product. Looks like Clint was doing the same thing. Thanks for the mind blowing technical info "not much more ground clearance than my one tons,"

Steve "Glassman" runs em' in his S-10 cab truck, 48" ag's I believe.
Jim B. runs em in his monster w/60" R-2's. Jim has found the shortcomings of the 2.5 rockwells. After upgrading to an SCS t/c & big $$ Ouverson shafts & spools, spun a carrier bearing in the diff. Jim's the guy in the truck bed.

There are now 4.90 gear sets for the 2.5 rockwells. About $1200 though.

Been running 46" tires on Rockwells with zero breakage and few worries.

just wanted to see who locally was running them and what your experiences with them have been.

I've wheeled lots of trails in WA State and I cannot even think of a real world scenario (except small man's disease) that would require Rockwells. :D :stirthepot: :lmao:

Rockwells are like Dana 60's... you "think" you need them because you read somewhere that they were cool. :grinpimp:

Just kidding... Buy whatever makes you feel good. I do! :D :)
