: who here orders from 4WPW
tmillspaw 06-21-2002, 11:20 PM ordered the lift kit in April. Now its June, almost July--it still isnt here!!. Called to find out whats up and got story #1: "coils are ready to be shipped, box kit was on back order, should be shipped out in a few days, you should have it at the end of the week at the latest." 3 weeks later, no lift kit. :( finally got some free time and called about it again last week. story #2: "skyjacker never recieved our fax order. we faxed it to them but for whatever reason they didnt recieve it. we resent it with an expidite notice. should be here in 3-4 days." now a week later, still not here.:mad3: anyone else had any problems with 4WW or Skyjacker???
RockRanger 06-21-2002, 11:32 PM sounds like my tires and rims that would be there in 3 days and got them 3 months later. I have always delt in person with them so not sure about ordering. Taht was at the elcajon store. I bought tires at the freso store and they were in when they said tehy would be. It just took them like 2 hours to mount them which sucked.
Matt
tmillspaw 06-21-2002, 11:37 PM I've got a friend who ordered most of his stuff from National Tire and Wheel. I'm thinking I might go that way too. It's too bad too, 'cause 4WPW is just a drive down the road from my apartment here in Dallas.
bigwillys 06-22-2002, 12:35 AM a buddy of mine tried to order some 6" chevy springs from 4wpw. they kept giving him a different story every time he called so he finally said screw off and got em from central who had em ready to go. he told me not to even waste my time with em and get em from someone else. i hear nothing but complaints about 4wpw.
chumly2071 06-22-2002, 05:28 AM I've got an account with their wholesale division, and have had very good service. On the other hand, one of our club members bought a Skyjacker long arm kit for a TJ, and it came incomplete (missing 2 of the long arms), then came the wrong arms, then came without the bushings. I can't remember who he bought it through, but I know when it was messed up, Skyjacker kept messing it up even more. Another close friend is having warranty problems with Skyjacker covering sagging springs on a street driven TJ. IMO, Skyjacker sucks.
For stock applications ( obviously not pirate level stuff) I have had very good luck with BDS parts.
My experiences...
Chad
Big Rich 06-22-2002, 07:38 AM I have never ordered suspension parts from them, but performance parts, tires and wheels and never had a problem, good pricing and quick service. It may be like mist big outlets, it's the guy on the phone taking orders, if he screws up or does not care, your screwed.
Rich
Sloan 06-22-2002, 08:08 AM I have to advantage that I can walk into their stores and thier warehouse is about 15 minutes from my house. It's like anywhere else, make friends with the guy that seems to know what's up or the manager. The only time I've ever had a problem with them concerning wrong parts, turns out there was a misprint in the Pro Comp shock catalog.:D
NOODLES 06-22-2002, 10:04 AM Just tires. Thats all I care to buy from them dickheads. Its coming from our wharehouse in the bay area-----10 min later--------its coming from the manufacturer. All they are is a mail order company trying to look retail.
I think people don't distinguish between the mail order whorehouse and the local stores. The local stores can be good or bad depending upon who works there.
The mail order place is terrible. They're dishonest, deceitful, and care only about making the sale. Once they've got your cc #, watch out. If you're lucky you'll get your stuff. But if there's ANY problem (backorder, lost, damaged, wrong part, whatever), they have NO concept of customer service. They'll do whatever they can to get you off the phone without fixing the problem.
They'll do whatever they can to make a sale. If you're uncertain about a certain product, they'll say "try it out, if you dont' like it call us up and we'll exchange it." If you try to call later they deny ever saying anything like that.
They're also trained, of course, to push Pro-Crap whenever possible. Try it - call them up, mention any vehicle and say you need a lift. They'll immediately try to sell you a Pro-Crap lift. I'm sure it's the same for shocks, tires, hubs and even batteries now. Oh, and Genuine Gear ring and pinion sets :rainbow:
Seems their only redeeming quality is the lifetime warranty they offer on shafts thru Drivetrain Whorehouse.
pmurf1 06-22-2002, 03:24 PM I've had nothing but good luck with them. I got 5 38" swampers, custom backspaced rims, gears, detroits, shocks, 9500, etc. from them in the last couple of years. They even warrantied my grenaded Detroit no questions asked. They always ship fast to me. I'll buy from them again.
Priest 06-22-2002, 03:44 PM I've never mail ordered but I have been into the Oakland store a few times. Most of the time if it isn't in the store it is in the warehouse about 20min away and I can just go pick it up there. A few times they have had to ship stuff to my house because it wasn't either place but I have good luck with them. and I'll be going back.
Dustin 06-23-2002, 11:55 AM For the most part they have been good to me. I have had a couple things come in a couple days late but thats it. Now they are helping me out with calrocs. Drivetrain warehouse did manage to bill my cc without being able to tell me when my axleshafts will be in though.
NOODLES 06-23-2002, 12:54 PM They have for the most part as far as service goes good to me and parts availibility also just don't lie to my face. I have a 4wp just a 1/4 mile from me and I don't have to call or order online.

The store right off of I35 sucks. If they don't have the part you want in stock go somewhere else. You will wait forever and your lucky if they get the right part. At least that's been my experience with them. I've heard of other people having problems with other stores too. If they didn't have such low prices and do that kind of volume they wouldn't be in business. I think that some of the magazines have like 8 page ads for them now. Pretty soon, they won't even have articles it will just be a big 4wp brochure. Oh well this board has better content than any mag anyway...
1988YJ 06-23-2002, 05:57 PM I've had good luck dealing with them at the store. Most of the time they had what I needed or I would go somewhere else. You better know what you want before you show up, I've only run across a few guys there that knew what they were talking about from experience, most of there BS was heresay...
tmillspaw 06-23-2002, 06:48 PM They're also trained, of course, to push Pro-Crap whenever possible. Try it - call them up, mention any vehicle and say you need a lift. They'll immediately try to sell you a Pro-Crap lift
funny you should mention that.....as soon as I walked in and said I was looking for a lift kit, the guy said, "We've got a Pro-Comp complete kit for.........comes with shocks and drop pitman arm.........."
I'm not going to give up on 4WPW yet.....
Thanks for everyone's comments

I worked for 4WPW for a few months before I had to move, liked working there, but its funny what you mention about skyjacker, they'll forget parts in thier kits or send the wrong parts, but they will NEVER forget the little card that has the religious note on it.
Chris Geiger 06-23-2002, 11:43 PM I usually get my tires from them. Good service and prices.
TNToy 06-24-2002, 12:20 AM If you're in memphis, you are in luck, because all the guys there wheel (tube-frame-and-38s style wheeling, not 'poser chrome jeep' style)... and they care about the OTHER people in the area who wheel. I dunno about the guy coming in to get a Lund moonvisor for his 2002 IFS chevy, but I've never had a problem with them and they have always been straight with me.
Only thing I don't like is that you gotta go through someone else to get non-Genuine R&Ps - that's about the only thing I don't buy from them that I don't make myself. Sorry all the other stores can't be as good as ours.
moveaside 06-24-2002, 07:40 PM I drive by the Oakland store 3times a week and I still buy at Specialtyparts in Cordelia There's prices are high they are never in-stock and the employees are nice but they all look like they got way too stoned the night before. Most of their rigs are shiny and for show. And they try and treat you like a dumbass when you don't buy the most expensive mod available from them or yes they do push Pro-comp very hard.:flipoff2: Reminds me of Bestbuy especially when you try to return something:mad3:
Supergper 06-24-2002, 07:53 PM I just returned a set of Boggers I bought from their internet store about 4-5 months ago and I had no receipt...they did it no problem and gave me full price for them...I was happy with their service that time...other experience was I had them do a gear install and I specifically said I wanted my old gears back...needless to say they chucked them...I bithed them out and ended up with a free brand new set of R&P:D:D:D again they made me happy:flipoff2:
spoolnaround 06-24-2002, 08:01 PM I ordered a set of rims for my old Heep from them they said it would be 5-10 days. They came in in 2. The store in Fresno I really havent had any problems with their supply just sucka$$ advice by a guy that works there. They take care of our club when it comes to donations for raffle prizes on our runs so I keep buying from them. As long as I dont listen to their wonderful advice they have been good to me.
tmillspaw 06-24-2002, 11:40 PM kit finally arrived today :D :D :D no missing parts :D and it even came with that religious note :flipoff2:

I worked at a Best Buy once. During that time we had many returns. $100 minidisc player returned in $200 minidisc player box ($200 refund). Playstation whiddled out of wood returned in original box--it really happened!! New computer box sealed and returned with a few bricks inside and stuffed with newspaper to keep them from rattling around--oh yes, this DID happen....A few people got fired for that one :flipoff2:

LMFAO!! I worked at Butt Buy for like 2 mths. Just long enough to get the employee plan for my phone! :smokin:
I heard MANY stories of stuff being returned, and the product not being in the box. Bricks, paper, cinder blocks, etc,etc etc! And people wonder why Butt Buy is SO anal about returning sh!t! I was taking a CD player back for an exchange, and this ragged looking dude comes in with an $1500 PDA, no receipt, and when they opened the box, the PDA that was in there was a $200 PDA, had NO manual, NONE of the accssosories, had NOTHNG but the PDA. He claimed it came that way, and the box was OPEN, and sold to him OPEN, but not at the open box price, and he claimed no one opened the box and checked to make sure it came with what it was supposed to come with. :shaking: :shaking:
The kicker was, when they said no return, no store credit, no NOTHING, he went stomping out of the store, and LEFT THE PDA, and EVERYTHING he brought it. He just left it there. I thought it was funny as hell.
saf-t scissors 06-25-2002, 09:43 AM If I'm not mistaken, the mail order (telephone) division is also separate from the internet site. I have ordered several things off the internet with zero probs. A few mos back, I was looking for an ARB front bumper. Right after the first of the year, they jacked the prices like 10% across the board. I called the internet customer service division (there are only like two guys to talk to AFAIK), told the guy that I was planning on buying the bumper, but could I get the old price, and still get the free shipping for online ordering.
Long story short, they gave me the old price, charged me $5 for handling, and shipped a 80# bumper across the country for free. Oh, and they told me to expect it in 2-3 weeks. It was on my doorstep in 4 days.

I ordered Spicer gears and they sent me that Genuine crap. I called them and told them to send me my damn Spicers.
TONY K 06-25-2002, 11:43 PM Mail order and internet dept is a numbers game. Turn and burn, but most mail order guys have been in the industry awhile. Most m/o deals are right out of the ads, easy.
Retail sales staff mean well but most have no real clue what they are selling you. They looked it up in a book and you better hope they can read. Most sales guys make sh!t and that's why you get fresh faces every week behind the counter.
Better know what you are buying and where it is coming from. Direct from a manufacturer, you better call and make sure they even make that part. Pay by credit card on every purchase, you get screwed, you can do something about it.
BUY FROM PEOPLE YOU TRUST. If you have a solid relationship with your parts guy, you'll get the price and the service you want. Take someone's ad to you parts guy and see what they can do.
Happy shopping,
tony k
doctor_G 06-26-2002, 09:15 AM I dealt with them once but they screwed up.
A buddy of mine had problems with them as well.
Must just be the mail order dept.
Oddly enough, out of every place I've ordered from (alot of places)
JCWhitney, M.O.R.E. and 4WDH has never messed up. They just don't carry the kind of things I'm looking for.
