what have most of you done while putting D44's in your zuk? gone with teh D44 caliper's and changed your master and booster out? or how did you keep good braking going to such large calipers??

well with the help of a few "bitch beers" and an over active imagination moto261 and i came up with an interesting idea... so we gave it a shot...

here's the caliper bracket, part D44, part 3/8in plate

ok here's an over shot of the rotor/caliper on the ford 5 lug D44 outer, the offset of the offset of the bracket was NONE, flush mounted to teh existing D44 caliper bracket...

here's anotehr veiw of it all together, yea we know the rotor's are pretty rusty, but it's only surface rust and will wear off while putting it around the driveway a few times testing they're strength...

So is that a zuk caliper and rotor on a d44 knuckle???

Anyways, most of the folks on this bbs I've talked with just run the d44 calipers and no other mods, and suposedly it works fine. A few others have switched mcs to Ford Ranger or Dodge units. I have running mine around with just the zuk unit and it seems to work fine. I wouldnt want to give up the bigger vented rotors, so if it doesnt work I'm switching the mc.

yea, just prototyped up right now, figured it wouldn't hurt to try... the welded bracket's will be replaced with a solid one and new rotor's it of works, the zuk stopped SO good with stock disc's on all 4 corner's with the zuk axles and 35x15.5SX's so why not stick with what was working?

that and it looks cood ;)

of the two d44 equiped sami's i have driven, if you keep the rear drums the stock master and all will work. you will not have much pedal feel but the brakes do work fine. one guy i know swapped to rear disc's and this proved to be a too much for the stock master. since then he swapped in a master for an early 80's firebird (i think) and he now has pedal feel and lots of braking power. this master even bolted onto the stock booster!

I have toy disks front and drums rear and it stops like a sports car.

i' the guy hig5 was talking about. the 80's master cylinder bolts right in with a little bit of clearing the holes with a round file. nothing needs to be done to the push rod either. i'm real happy with the setup. before i would stop fine but there was no pedal:usa:
