: Weekend Update 11/03 - 11/04
Blind Driver 11-04-2007, 07:44 PM My b-day was on Saturday. Followed a co-worker to dump some dirt and watched him get the tri-axle stuck in the mud :shaking:. 3 hours of digging later, it was still stuck. A loader came and yanked it out. I never should have even lifted the shovel :(
Worked on my IH (tri-axle dump) all day Sunday. All of my projects still collecting dust. If we get rain tomorrow I'll work on the 1100 and maybe update my build thread for a change :shaking:
larboc@hotmail.com 11-04-2007, 07:53 PM Lot's of work on scoutzall, nothing photogenic.
Brandon 11-04-2007, 08:46 PM sacrificed a scout 800 - parts parts parts..
No work on my own scout but I tore this one down to parts and that was a lot of work! Eeek I am sore.
Also became a foster parent..
to a beagle ;) Helping out with the beagle rescue. Got lucky with this guy, he's pretty cool. Anyone want a beagle?
scout254 11-04-2007, 08:54 PM Had to work SAT doing inventory.:mad3:

47jheep 11-04-2007, 09:23 PM 254 - looks like you're going beyond the roll over repair... gettin a whole new interior, cool. let me know if you need any help :smokin:
MochaMike 11-04-2007, 09:27 PM Today I picked up Waggy inner & outer trail spares for cheap (1/2 price day at PnP).
Best part was someone pulled the hubs, rotors & spindles.
All I had to do was pull the shafts out of the housing & walk back up to the front.:grinpimp:
SCOUT1ton 11-04-2007, 10:00 PM Wheeled, thrashed on the Vortec some. Ended up with huge dent in oil pan, not sure how I did it and didn't know. May have been too many
Diesel Smoke 11-04-2007, 10:08 PM Nothing spectacular.....
Saturday I helped my Dad install a Lokar kickdown into his Travelall with the 401. It wasn't quite bolt-in, but it's to be inspected when connecting a Ford carb on an AMC engine to a Chrysler transmission, all in an International truck. Stopped working early as my sister, BIL and nephew came over for pizza and to watch the Beavers get stomped by USC.:(
Sunday was spent at the rifle range. My roomate loaded up 80 .308 rounds and I think we tested 6 new loads for his gun. He found a great hunt load. I ran though 6 test loads I did for my .357 rifle. Sadly they weren't what I was expecting, I just need them alittle hotter. Spent a good couple of hours crunching numbers on the load data.
I haven't been wheeling in forever...sucks being unemployed, but hopefully in a week that will be a thing of the past. Only bad thing is the pay sucks.:(
CabtopXLC 11-05-2007, 05:15 AM Went to Northern Tool and bought a couple to convert one my Scout II frames to a trailer to haul the riding lawn mower. Also bought some 3 inch fixed and some 12" pneumatic swivel caster wheels to make a moveable engine stand out of the front part of frame #2. I'm putting a radiator, etc on it so that I can do a "live" upgrade of a 392 and be able to test it after each upgrade.
Brett
Urban Wheeler 11-05-2007, 05:33 AM Went to Branik Saturday and helped start a new buggy chassis.
Sunday was a fuckoff day.
Mechanos 11-05-2007, 06:20 AM Got my trailer project wire-wheeled (that mega-sucked), primed and painted this weekend. Pretty much kicked my ass.
Note to self: Do not EVER do that again.
misterfubar 11-05-2007, 10:27 AM Played Army all weekend. I switched up my work schedule so I now have mondays off instead of fridays so after I get some drywall repair done, and shelfs hung for the wife I plan on working on my floors today.
Sat. had to work again :mad3: Fawk this is getting old.
Sun. Bro barrowed my mig welder and skips town so it was locked up in his garage. Redirected my efforts to bolting stuff on the engine, installed steering ram, hoses, nuts and bolts here and there, etc. I guess I could post a pick of a Scout on 4 jack stands.:homer:
NVScouter 11-05-2007, 12:04 PM Guard Drill ate my weekend up...5 more years anc counting :mad3: down

Mechanos 11-05-2007, 01:21 PM You could just be a complete dipshit like one of the ladies here at work. Whenever her unit went on excercises, they left her behind to keep an "eye on the office". After a while, they finally just asked her to go away.:laughing::laughing:

Main hoop and back are mandrel bent out of .187" ROPS (roll over protection) tubing. It is what is on a Ditch Witch tractor/trencher. When I worked there I drew it up and had them bent up. Got layed off before I could have the front hoop bent, so I welded it out of 2" square. Thanks for liking the light covers, its sure alot easier to cut the cardboard pattern than to freehand cut with plasma.
misterfubar 11-05-2007, 05:32 PM Ummmm, you intend to serve for 44 years?
If I want to keep and retire from my current job I do. Well, 42 years, your math is a little off.
Snoopy 11-05-2007, 05:53 PM Spent two days at SEMA!
I haven't had much time to post more pictures, but I did want to give you guys the links to the three videos I took while there. These are more entertainment...
This first one was where the tire and 4x4 sections intertwined. Anyone who knows the wine of a RC car motor, can recognize it. And when I heard it, I wondered what/who would have an RC car. It was an older gentleman demonstrating 'Drifting' with is RC car. Although its true that the car was on polished concrete, and had foamy tires ~ which makes sliding around relatively easy to start, I ~ and about 30 others ~ were entranced with his ability to control the drifting around his little man-made track.

This next one is truly amazing. Its a video game. But to make it more real, its got some suttle changes. First, the driver sits in an actual racing seat ~ the pedals are actual racing pedals complete with master cylinders, the steering wheel is an actual removable racing steering wheel w/ paddle shifters. For screens ~ yes, plural ~ they are wide and curved to give a panoramic view of the track....but thats not all. When I got to the game the guy was doing relatively well ~ then he was instructed to let go of the wheel and stay off the gas. At that 'idle' time, the motion was turned on. Then when powered up, he could continue. The seat itself is attached to hydraulics that mimick the exact motion of any feedback to the pedals and wheel. It also changed due to speed and track information. This video is a smaller clip ~ but they guy, who was doing relatively well, could barely keep the car on the track after the motion was turned on. It was shockingly cool to watch. The line for the game was too long for me ~ but here's a short video after the motion was turned on.
http://www.dandcextreme.com/upload/sema/MVI_1125.avi
One of the many cool demonstrations of the new technology available was this 5-axis CNC machine. Which was programed to perfectly port heads. I had heard of this ~ and know of a guy in Denver that actually has this technology in use for his IH motors ~ actually its not his machine, but has a buddy that developed a program for our IH heads and then custom grinds a cam to match the new heads as well. Very cool if you ask me ~ and although I thought it was very nice to hear, I'd never seen a machine actually port heads....so here's a video of it.
http://www.dandcextreme.com/upload/sema/MVI_1191.avi
Unfortunately I only had cheap batteries in my camera so I couldn't take more video, but I hope these short vids gives you some idea of the vast amount of STUFF available at the SEMA show.
Enjoy ~ I have a picture posting thread at: http://www.binderbulletin.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74550
Sat. Slept in, worked at some unfinished projects
Sun. Church & lounging.

Yes it is 2x4 but the material is something special for ROPS. I do have some other shots of the tail light caps just have to find them or take more.
jpeater 11-05-2007, 07:52 PM Did a bit more tear down this weekend in prep for some of the rebuild. Cut off the passenger side shock hoop and removed the rear u-bolts. Ordered up a few pieces for a rear spring over and 30 spline front outers. Drained the rear diff and some other minor tinkering.
Also got a picture of the Peterson manufacturing side marker light rubber plastic surround piece.

Rear axle e-brake cable mounts have always bothered me so I cut them off and will reattach when I get my new spring perches:

I will be doing some wiring in my house to put 220v in my garage to support the new welder I am about to buy. I only have about three more months in Iraq and this boy is comming home for good!

Hey Tahcustomscout good to see you posting up. Glad to hear you will be back in a few months. Your last buildup looked good.
binderbound 11-06-2007, 08:11 PM I'm still a total tool bag  I'm fabricating for the man now. No time for my own junk or customer junk. Oh well. nice to see pirate for the first time in a month though. xoxo

Stay Safe Man!
Finished moving my Mom into my old place in Phillipsburg, where all my crap is still at. But I did get to exercise the T-all during the move. It's been a long time since I've been able to do that. Plus I gave my new Wife a chance to drive it, well only to pull the Scout out of the way. But anyway, that hurdle (the move) is done. Now I need to scrounge up the money to rent a truck and get my tools and other crap down here.

Snoop, if I remember correctly, the 5 axis was developed to machine the Sub props that were then tested at Bayview ID. The first ones used a bowling ball for a flexible drive joint.
The props were tested at night. I was there in Bayview.:smokin: Seen some cool stuff. That was many years ago too. There is some VERY expensive bad Ass Subs located there.
It is nice to see the 5 axis are being used on IH heads along with the others. :D
76scoutman 11-08-2007, 01:11 PM Installed about 400 square feet of hardwood and cut tile to fit the master bath. Baby is due in a few weeks so time for the Scout is getting limited. It's still collecting dust.
Snoopy 11-08-2007, 01:29 PM Oh yes, Shadowman is a machine-meister ~ I forgot about that.

Fuck ya! Gettin' down to some cuttin and hackin....Now were talking :flipoff2:
I worked :(
BinderMike 11-11-2007, 10:27 AM Started the scout for the first time in 3 months, needed a new battery, melted a terminal after that, and then had to use a tiny, teeny mist of WD40 (because I am out of ether for some reason) to get it to finally crank. But once it did and fuel completely got to the carb, it fired right up. I never understood how that old truck starts better than my 2000 883Sportster when I ran the bike the previous day, and the truck can go 2 weeks without being ran and start right back up...
Anyway, went out on a couple of OHV trails that I discovered, its a gray area wether or not they are ATV only (they say OHV in a Forest Service area  ) I only went a mile or two, I just wanted to see what they were like and didn't want to venture too far, I don't know whats going to break. I realize now that I first need to replace the master cylinder, thats getting to be a scary situation. Next, I need to be the newbie I am and read up on where the vent tubes are for this thing and where I can fashion some new ones, there's a water crossing (about 15" deep, enough to get to the axles) over there.
But, its been out now for the first time, and even though I did all of it in 2hi, it still feels good to know there's someplace local and somewhere I might find a challenge.
